Hello,
I'd think that creating a PHPBB can be useful for helping your players connect.

Does anyone know if its possible to take PHPBB and connect it to an existing website?
Do I need to get a separate domain name or can I link it to my existing site?

I downloaded the code for a site. Should I just drop it into a new webpage and link it to my site?

Thanks in advance.

Hey.

My experience (all 4 days of it) with php BB leads me to believe that it is really bloody simple to use. Make a folder on your server (usually in the www folder) and call it whatever (they call theirs 'phpbb2', I call mine 'forums') and whack the contents of phpbb2 in there. Then follow the instructions to install it all (making sure you name the directory properly) and you're done. You can then have a website sitting in the root folder which links to the forum. But I think you need to know some coding to get phpbb to link back to your website, which I don't, but I'll be getting my coder friend to take care of that when my website is actually finished.

But you don't need a seperate domain name or anything, just a seperate folder inside your www folder where your website sits, then link your website to it like a normal webpage in a seperate folder.

I hope that helps answer your questions some.

The important thing is that your web site hosting has PHP installed, and one of the databases that work with PHPBB. Normally this will be MySQL, but others can be used. You should be able to check with your hosting company or ISP as to what the situation is with these two (and get appropriate MySQL username and password). They may charge you extra for installing them, they may not.

It is pretty easy to set up.
