Hey folks.

I'll start this forum off by asking a few questions:

1) Can I/Should I ever delete anything from my forum?

2) If I want to post about something new I'm working on, do I have to do it in my own forum? I'm guilty of not always looking at new posts in the all the specialized forums and if I want the most potential bang for my buck (Ron says "Buck? What buck??"), I know I'll get it if I post to the standard places.

3) Besides these two items, what are the responsibilites/perks/assumptions of being a forum moderator?

Yup. Feel free. What do I normally do as forum moderator?

- I delete duplicate posts I see. I do this immediately, without any reservation. I see it as a service to keeping things clean.
- As far as content goes, if something is blatantly off-topic/offensive/hostile, I send the poster a private message and an e-mail asking them to consider re-phrasing/removing their post. If I don't get a response in five days, I'll delete the post if it's that bad. I'll usually post a message to the forum letting them know as well.
- I don't just delete stuff I don't like. People would shit themselves.

Absolutely not. Do what you like with that. My suggestion:
- If you're working on a new game idea, put your first post in Indie Game Design.
- If something comes from it, and you get interest, make subsequent posts in your forum. I might move the original thread to your forum, as well.

3) Besides these two items, what are the responsibilites/perks/assumptions of being a forum moderator?

Lemme see. You can split threads - very, very useful way to keep discussions on topic while preserving everything. When you're reading a thread, you should see buttons at the bottom that let you lock, delete, move, or split a thread.

You can lock threads. Do this if you see fit - in your own forum, you're the boss, not me or Ron. I do ask that you make a last post on the thread explaining why you're locking it.

Lastly, you can post here. I'm a lot more likely to jump on a suggestion for a new forum feature from a moderator than from Joe Random.

Thanks Clinton. Got it.

And thanks to Ron for letting me have my own forum. I never really thought I would get many posts, but I suppose it all depends on how often I post to it, and what I bring to the table. I hope I can bring some cool stuff.

Heck, first day I deleted one of Clinton's posts out of the Universalis Playtest forum. Well, it was only Clinton, after all.... ;-)

Actually, it was an administrative message that was just cluttering things up (and coulda been sent via PM, hmmm. Trying to boost your posts figure Clinton?)

Just kidding, sheesh!

Where are the Instructions?

This comes in several parts and refers to a few specific questions.

• What happened to the BBCode instructions in the FAQ?

• Things have changed subtly, but noticably. I'd kinda like the full set; the phpBB site was difficult.• Since the assumed setting is html off, I don't think its a good use of my time to keep trying to use html.• Would it be possible to 'switch it on' for everyone who hasn't specified a preference?• I am a programmer from way back, and after reading the sourcecode for phpBB stuff, it didn't seem so hard. Need any help?

• Where are the 'Moderator Instructions?'

• How do we split a thread?
• Is it possible to 'steal' a thread into our forums?
• Can we repair links that are messed up by these moves?

• Do you think people would be angry if you 'cleaned up' the threads in your forum?

• As you might have noticed, all of mine start with [Scattershot] which is now redundant.
• That would be with an announcement.
• Where do you do the 'sticky' or 'announcement' stuff and what are the specific effects?

Jeez, that's a lot of questions. Here we go:

1:
The BBCode instructions are on the posting page. You can find them at: http://www.indie-rpgs.com/forum/faq.php?mode=bbcode.

You can turn HTML on by default in your profile. No, I'm not changing it for everyone - some people may want it off.

I do not want any help programming. I appreciate the offer, but the answer is a very firm 'no'.

2:
I haven't posted any moderator instructions. Maybe I should. I talked about how to split a thread earlier in this thread. At the bottom of each thread, there should be buttons for splitting a thread, deleting a thread, locking a thread, and moving a thread.

You can repair links by editing a post. It's easy - just click 'edit'.

If you need a thread moved from a forum that you're not a moderator of, ask me. Do not be afraid to ask me for things.

3:
Clean up threads all you want in your own forum. You can make a 'sticky' or 'announcement' thread when making the initial post. It's on the normal 'making a post' page.
