After four months of work, Strife: Pride's Fall is ready to undergo the first of many play tests, and play tests require players. We have a limited number of spots left for playtesters, and anyone interested is welome to send an application to strife@strife.000k2.com . Please include any and all relevant roleplaying experience, though we welcome alpha testers who have limited to no experience as the input a complete newbie can offer is of vital importance. Thank you for your time, and we welcome you to take a look at what information has been posted thus far at www.strife.000k2.com.

Just out of curiosity, (no guff here, I promise) why did you choose to employ classes?

At first we toyed with the idea of making the game completly classless, later switching to a classless/classed hybrid system, which has become the system you see now. The decison was based on observations on other classless systems, mainly that while a classless system offers greater flexability, it forces all characters along the same build path. With the leveling system we have in place, and the character advancement we have in place, a classless system would be no different than if we forced all characters to take the Templar build. In order to perserve the flavor and uniquness we required, and to allow seperate distinctions to be apparent, we chose to follow a traditional "Class Advancement" system.

What kind of flexibility does Strife offer if a player were to decide he wanted to be a hybrid of two classes, say a Rogue-Mage? How does the system handle those who begin their life differently than can be ascribed to one of the classes, say as a blacksmith or a farmer?

Hey!

This is not a discussion forum. If you're offering to playtest, then you know what to do - send an email as instructed.

If you want to discuss class systems in role-playing, with or without specfic examples, then take it to RPG Theory. There already exist some very powerful discussions about this, so a thread search ought to be your first step.

But this particular discussion stops here, now.

Best,
Ron

It seems my love of debate has run away with me again, but Ron is right, if you want to discuss the intricate workings of Strife you are welcome to do so via the same e-mail address. We still have some room for playtesters, though the slots avalible are rapidly filling.
