[DITV] Dogs in the IRC: Sorrow part II
Session 1/initation here.
Session 2/Sorrow I here.
So, as we'll see, I (the player) took a long-ass time to take care of my scene; and as such, I'll be your host this week for the AP thread. ;) Timestamps are included because.. well, partly because it's a bunch of effort to strip all of them out, as I have them on by default; but it might also be useful for folks to see how fast/slow things actually move on IRC. Time is PDT.
Normally we start at 6:30, but Jon was a bit late, and he intimated that Danny/Esau might not be able to join us anymore. So we pick up at 7, doing a recap and scene-setting for what's to happen tonight.
[18:59] <Dog_Wrangler> so, scene opens. Hosea was going to meet with Ezekiel by
himself and everybody else was going to visit the Mountain People settlement.
let's do a mental mini-monologue for each person.
[19:00] <Dog_Wrangler> give us a few sentences of what you're thinking. what your
hopes are, what your impressions of Sorrow are.
[19:01] <Dog_Wrangler> and then we'll start with Hosea's scene first, which'll
probably be a conflict, I imagine.
[19:01] <Hosea_Laurent> (side-track: maybe Esau can fall sick? possibly after eating
dinner! intrigue, or accident?!)
[19:01] <Dog_Wrangler> (that would be SO COOL. okay, I'm on it. we'll work
something out for Esau)
[19:03] <Hosea_Laurent> Hosea's thinkin' that Sorrow is a crummy little town. It's
definitely stuck in a bad mindset, and the last thing he'll do when he leaves is
give it a new name. No town should be called Sorrow. He's not too sure about this
Mountain People situation right now.
[19:04] <Hosea_Laurent> Thinkin' it's probably the MP's fault, at the heart of it;
they're not of the Faith; they know it, we know it; they know it's never good when
the two mix. Anything that happens to them as a result, they asked for.
[19:06] <Dog_Wrangler> (anybody else?)
[19:06] <Cyrus_Ben> "I can't believe I'm stuck out here with these ignorant yokels
and savage indians. King of Life! I could have gone to Harvard!"
[19:07] <Jezebel> Jez is half-tempted to haul Abraham out and dress him down right
now for his obvious bigotry, but knows that there's more going on than just his
bigotry, although she suspects it's pretty darn close to the core. As for the
mountain folk, she wants to get their side of the story, and keep a sharp eye out
for demonic signs; mountain folk don't tend to sit and loom all by themselves like
that.
[19:08] <Jared_Claire> Jared's a bit annoyed at people for making life difficult for
themselves. He's starting to see why heads need smacking together sometimes. The
Steward and Ezekiel are at the top of that list. He's not sure what to make of
the mountain people. They're outside the town and should stay that way.
[19:08] <Dog_Wrangler> cool.
[19:08] <Dog_Wrangler> so, cut to Hosea walking by himself towards the ruins of the
mission.
And now we start the interminable Hosea/Ezekial scene. Comments to be added as we go!
[19:09] <Dog_Wrangler> after dinner, it gets dark pretty quickly, but there's a nice
moon rising, to give a sort of ghostly light over everything.
[19:09] <Hosea_Laurent> (Dark night? Moonlight? Dangerous frontier town with hints
of the supernatural? SOLD!)
[19:10] <Dog_Wrangler> Hosea can see two figures working together in the darkness.
one obviously darker skinned than the other, but both dressed simply, like
workmen, moving fresh timbers into place to frame one side of a new building.
[19:11] <Dog_Wrangler> it's all you, Ho. take us there.
[19:11] <Hosea_Laurent> (he's an underaged Ho, though, be careful =p)
[19:12] <Hosea_Laurent> "Men working by moonlight would be dedicated, or ashamed;
say which you are, brothers!" Hosea calls out as he approaches.
[19:13] <Dog_Wrangler> The paler man looks up and, seeing your coat, drops his end
of a timber and walks to greet you. (more)
[19:14] <Dog_Wrangler> "The Book says that we should not hide our works in the
darkness, for none to marvel at, but it also says that it is better to preserve
that which you love than foolishly allow it to be destroyed."
[19:14] <Dog_Wrangler> He shakes your hand. "Brother Zachariah. Welcome to Sorrow."
[19:16] <Dog_Wrangler> The darker man, Ezekiel no doubt, is staying back to watch
your exchange.
[19:16] <Dog_Wrangler> (so what's at stake here? what do you want?)
[19:17] <Hosea_Laurent> Hosea returns the shake strong. "Brother. I need t'speak to
Ezekial."
[19:17] <Dog_Wrangler> He looks a little put out, but motions to him companion. "Of
course. I understand."
[19:17] <Hosea_Laurent> (well, first thing is talking to Ezekial. My memory's off, I
need to start taking notes; Hosea's trying to get Zeke's side of the story, yeah?)
[19:18] <Cyrus_Ben> (It's up to you, dude)
[19:18] <Dog_Wrangler> (I suppose so. I think everyone just realizes he's at the
center of this and needs to be talked to.)
[19:18] <Jezebel> (pretty much)
[19:18] <Jared_Claire> (Something needs to be done to him. Talking's a start.)
[19:19] <Dog_Wrangler> Ezekiel walks forward holding a small sledge in his hands and
wringing it slightly in a concerned and nervous manner.
[19:19] <Dog_Wrangler> "You want to speak with me?"
[19:19] <Hosea_Laurent> (Well. I'm not sure what's at stake, then; authority, maybe?
Hosea's pretty young for a Dog, startin' off, and this town is pretty far off on
the frontier. Maybe if he blows this he'll have trouble gettin' stuff done..)
[19:20] <Dog_Wrangler> (So what's at stake is proving that Hosea's really in charge
here and that he has the authority to solve problems?)
[19:20] <Hosea_Laurent> (Hum. No, that's no good. Wrong scene for that, I'd think.
This is finding-stuff-out.)
[19:21] <Jezebel> (I would say that's a pretty narrow stake. I'd be inclined more
to something bigger like "get Ezekial's side of the story, straight up, no lies"
[19:21] <Hosea_Laurent> (Yar, we'll go with that)
Not too bad so far; got the stakes set.
[19:21] <Dog_Wrangler> (cool. roll them bones then, Just Talking: Acu + Heart)
[19:22] <Dog_Wrangler> #roll 9[1d6]
[19:22] -RPGServ:#dogs- <Roll for Dog_Wrangler [9[1d6]]: 4 4 3 1 5 5 4 1 2 >
[19:22] <Hosea_Laurent> #roll 7[1d6]

[19:22] <Dog_Wrangler> 1 1 2 3 4 4 4 5 5
[19:22] <Dog_Wrangler> you start, tho.
[19:22] <Hosea_Laurent> 1 2 2 3 4 5 6
[19:23] <Hosea_Laurent> I start off with a See?
[19:23] <Dog_Wrangler> no, Raise.
[19:23] <Hosea_Laurent> Right, okay.
[19:23] <Dog_Wrangler> say something he can't ignore.
[19:25] <Hosea_Laurent> Raise of 2 + 2: "Yea, Ezekial, I do." He lets go of Zach's
hand, folds his own hands in front of him. "Hear Bo tell it, you've got a lot of
angry people - your old people - lookin' for your hide. You wanna tell me why?"
[19:26] <Dog_Wrangler> Turning the Blow (4): "They don't understand the True Faith
when they hear it and try to stamp out glory when it emerges from the soil."
[19:28] <Dog_Wrangler> Raise (4 + 2): "The true children of the Mountain heard the
calling of the King and came to this mission with open hearts. But the ignorant
always seek to disrupt the salvation of the learned."
[19:29] <Hosea_Laurent> (Hmm)
[19:30] <Jezebel> (go all Laurent on his ass!)
[19:30] <Cyrus_Ben> (turn the blow! turn the blow!)
[19:30] <Hosea_Laurent> (You mean Take the Blow, right? Don't confuse me, now ;)
[19:31] <Dog_Wrangler> (no, you have a 6. Turn the Blow)
[19:31] <Cyrus_Ben> (Jon has it)
[19:31] <Hosea_Laurent> (oh, Reverse. Right, okay)
[19:31] <Hosea_Laurent> (okay then, I shall!)
[19:31] <Jezebel> (pull some traits! roll more dice!)
[19:32] <Dog_Wrangler> (yeah, more traits!)
[19:34] <Hosea_Laurent> Reverse the Blow (6): "No, Zeke, they understand the Faith
just fine. They've heard it, they want their old spirits. That's wrong, but they
chose knowin'. They don' care what you -believe-. They care what you -did-."
[19:35] <Hosea_Laurent> (So.. to bring a new trait in, I just roll the die, add then
have to bring the trait into narration? I just did rolls during the Initiation, so
still need some practice to get it all down..)
[19:35] <Dog_Wrangler> yeah, roll and then use the Trait to Raise.
[19:35] <Jezebel> (yup, that's right(
[19:36] <Hosea_Laurent> (okay, gonna use his "What do you mean, where's my Book?
Didn't you memorise it?" trait)
[19:36] <Hosea_Laurent> #roll 1[1d10]
[19:36] -RPGServ:#dogs- <Roll for Hosea_Laurent [1[1d10]]: 1 >
[19:36] <Hosea_Laurent> (....)
[19:36] <Dog_Wrangler> (I was hoping you would)
[19:36] <Dog_Wrangler> (doh!)
[19:36] <Jared_Claire> (ow)
[19:37] <Jezebel> (the King doesn't want you quotin him today...)
[19:37] <Hosea_Laurent> (when my Assault mechs kept missing during BattleTech
earlier this evening, I should've taken it for a sign. Okay, here we go =p )
[19:41] <Hosea_Laurent> (I'm not dead, just thinking difficulty. oog.)
See what I mean? 37-41.. nothin'. I was having a REALLY hard time coming up with a suitably impressive Book of Life quote. Ben/Cyrus set the bar pretty high with the dinner-sermon last session. I should've just peanut-gallery asked for some suggestions.
[19:41] <Dog_Wrangler> (I was worried. lay on the smack already!)
[19:41] <Cyrus_Ben> (Remember, you don't have to parry him verbally. Agree. Just
ask him tough questions.)
[19:42] <Hosea_Laurent> (I'm trying to come up with some kind of decent Book quote.
I guess since I rolled shite I can just toss something wimpy.)
[19:42] <Dog_Wrangler> (yeah, you job isn't to be wittier. it's to get that info.
ignore his shit and just go after him. take him to task.)
[19:44] <Cyrus_Ben> (or don't get in his face. Be friendly. Remember, he may not
be opposed to telling you the truth :-)
[19:45] <Dog_Wrangler> (i always forget that confrontations don't have to be...
confrontational)
[19:45] <Hosea_Laurent> Raise 1 + 3: " 'And when Gorrath died, and his soul went
before the King; his punishment was eternity in the Empty Gate; not for the murder
and the pain and the ravaging of the King's soil that he had done; but for not
taking the responsibility for the action; and so was sentenced for his cowardice.'
Book of Earth, Chapter 172, verses 6-11."
[19:46] <Dog_Wrangler> (dude, that's 1 +6, since you Turned the Blow)
[19:46] <Hosea_Laurent> (okay, I'm gonna make myself a note and stick it on the
monitor: SCREW THE FRUIT-LOOPS)
[19:46] <Hosea_Laurent> (ohhh, I spend what I see, don't I?)
[19:47] <Dog_Wrangler> okay, here I go: rolling "I have a Tongue of Fire"
[19:47] <Hosea_Laurent> (wait, no.. Okay, I have no idea what I'm doing then. 1 + 6
I guess)
[19:47] <Dog_Wrangler> #roll 2[1d8]
[19:47] -RPGServ:#dogs- <Roll for Dog_Wrangler [2[1d8]]: 5 6 >
[19:48] <Dog_Wrangler> (when you Turn the Blow, you get that value as part of your
next Raise. that's why it's good to do that: saves you dice)
[19:48] <Hosea_Laurent> (aha!)
[19:48] <Hosea_Laurent> (noting that down too)
[19:50] <Dog_Wrangler> Block (4, 3): "...I...I take responsibility for what I have
done. Is it not the task of the Faithful to bring good news to the fallen and
idolaters? What else could I have done but speak the word to my people?"
[19:52] <Dog_Wrangler> Raise (6, 5): "The King has seen fit to set me up above the
people of the dirt as a model to follow, but the unrighteous see me and cannot
contain their jealousy. So they seek to destroy me and the great things I have
built."
[19:52] <Jezebel> (Ok, Jared, you're right. He needs a good smack to the head.)
[19:54] <Hosea_Laurent> (I need to get my Laurent trait working or I'm gonna come
out badly in this. Any suggestions? I don't think the Name would do much because..
he's a born-again Mountain People who's way out here on far frontier)
[19:54] <Jared_Claire> (Something about the Laurents being no stranger to the King's
calling?)
[19:55] <Dog_Wrangler> (he's saying that he's the King's chosen, but *damn it* YOUR
people have been the King's chosen for a lot longer)
[19:55] <Cyrus_Ben> (smack him!)
[19:55] <Cyrus_Ben> (I know what it is like to be chosen by the king...)
[19:55] <Jezebel> (doesn't matter what he thinks of it; matters what you think of
it. "I'm a Laurent, and we've been Dogs for 4 generations. Don't seek to tell me
about the jealousy of the unrighteous"
[19:56] <Hosea_Laurent> (I kinda wanna escalate to Physical. Hosea's pretty brash.)
[19:57] <Hosea_Laurent> (Zach's still standing there, though..)
[19:57] <Jezebel> (do both! "No Laurent ever stood still for that kind of prideful
noise!"
[19:57] <Jezebel> (and then clock him!)
[19:59] <Hosea_Laurent> #roll 4[1d8]
[19:59] -RPGServ:#dogs- <Roll for Hosea_Laurent [4[1d8]]: 4 1 5 2 >
[19:59] <Hosea_Laurent> (for his Laurent trait. humm..)
[20:00] <Hosea_Laurent> (and I still have to Take the Blow, argh)
[20:00] <Dog_Wrangler> unless you escalate...
[20:00] <Dog_Wrangler> you roll body + heart for going Physical.
[20:00] <Hosea_Laurent> At which point we both roll a new set of dice?
[20:01] <Dog_Wrangler> keep the old ones too.
[20:01] <Hosea_Laurent> Dang, this could get big (I'm REALLY sorry this is taking so
long =/ )
So now we've gone about 50 minutes for this scene.. and.. not a lot has happened. Some of it's my rules questions, which basically means I need to get off my butt and buy the book already.
I'm also thinking - and I talked a bit with the other players about this after the game, Jon had to head off right away - that maybe I shouldn't be given spotlight time for awhile. I just bog right down when it's just my character, I really need someone else to play off of.
[20:01] <Jezebel> (except you'
[20:01] <Dog_Wrangler> it's okay.
[20:01] <Jezebel> ('ve already rolled heart for this challenge, so escalating would
only get you body)
[20:02] <Dog_Wrangler> (no, I think we decided that you always roll both for
escalating)
[20:02] <Dog_Wrangler> (p. 37)
[20:03] <Hosea_Laurent> If you Escalate, do you still See and just get more chance
for better dice, or go straight to Raise?
[20:03] <Dog_Wrangler> you still have to See, but you See physically, like knocking
him across the jaw.
[20:04] <Jezebel> (nope. Page 35 "In any given conflict, you roll each of your
stats dice only once")
[20:04] <Hosea_Laurent> So, what if I don't manage to get a 6? Then I still have to
Take the Blow. I'd physically fall down from his talking?
[20:04] <Hosea_Laurent> (or stagger or whatever)
[20:04] <Dog_Wrangler> (p. 48, "If you Escalate the conflict to a new arena, roll
your appropriate Stats")
[20:05] <Jezebel> Taking the blow doesn't always mean a problem right now; it just
means fallout later.
[20:05] <Hosea_Laurent> Oh..
[20:05] <Hosea_Laurent> I'll try and take some of this stuff less literally I guess
;p
[20:07] <Jezebel> (Jon, I think we're on different iterations of the book; 'cause
that's on my page 46. :p If you go to (probably somewhere around page 36 or 37)
it's the "Escalations" section. Near the bottom of that page, it's spelled out
really clearly,)
[20:08] <Dog_Wrangler> (okay, I believe you)
[20:08] <Dog_Wrangler> (so what's up Hosea, declare your actions and let's get
going, or we're not going to finish the town tonight)
[20:09] <Hosea_Laurent> I'll Take the Blow at 5 + 4 + 1 + 1: "You speak of bein' set
above? You say that to a DOG of the KING, Ezekial? You want to speak of bein' set
above -anyone-? You say the words of the Faith, "brother", but you're still up
there in the mountains."
[20:09] <Hosea_Laurent> And then I'll pull in my Laurent dice for the raise
[20:10] <Hosea_Laurent> (oh, oh, do we know his Mountain People name? was that
mentioned at dinner?)
[20:10] <Dog_Wrangler> (nope)
[20:10] <Hosea_Laurent> (nuts!)
[20:11] <Cyrus_Ben> (dude, intuit it.)
[20:11] <Dog_Wrangler> (i'd have to check the transcript...)
[20:11] <Dog_Wrangler> (i have him down on my page as "Ezekiel Mankiller" and Bo Mac
may have called him that)
[20:12] <Jezebel> (go with it)
[20:12] <Dog_Wrangler> (Raise Raise Raise!)
[20:13] <Hosea_Laurent> Raise 5 + 4: "I'm a Laurent, Mountain Wind. The Laurents
have served the King as his dogs for generations. You understand that, Red
Feather? The Faith is in my blood. Goes back more years than you can count, Stone
Head. More years and more. And we know, know in all those years, we be but his
humble servants. (more)"
[20:14] <Hosea_Laurent> "You know why I'm better than you, Eagle Tooth? Ain't cos
I'm a Dog. Ain't even cos I'm a Laurent. It's cause I act in His name. It all
comes from HIM. It's -never- me. It's never the -Dog-. You're lying to the King
right now. Which name do you think He's callin' you? Which do you want it to be?"
[20:14] <Hosea_Laurent> (done..)
..and I seemed to hit my stride, and get comfortable with the whole thing. The rest of the scene goes along at a good pace, and I'm -pretty- happy with my and Hosea's performance, overall, nonwithstanding the incredible amount of time things took to get going on my part.
[20:15] <Cyrus_Ben> (wow, that was... interesting...)
[20:15] <Dog_Wrangler> (definitely)
[20:15] <Jezebel> (Oh yeah, that's the stuff. "You're lying to the King right now"
[20:15] <Hosea_Laurent> (the name thing.. it's not so much racism, as just.. "you're
all the same, you're still up there, you still got -that- name, you're not an
Ezekial")
[20:16] <Hosea_Laurent> (he's not worthy of a Faith name)
[20:16] <Dog_Wrangler> rolling "The King's Brown Prophet"
[20:16] <Dog_Wrangler> #roll 2[1d8]
[20:16] -RPGServ:#dogs- <Roll for Dog_Wrangler [2[1d8]]: 7 5 >
[20:17] <Jezebel> (Man, dice like you tonight....)
[20:18] <Hosea_Laurent> (I'm still gonna have to Escalate I think)
[20:18] <Dog_Wrangler> Block (5, 4): "You white men with your rainbow coats lay
judgement in the King's name, but still refuse to recognise a true prophet when
they come garbed in darker skin."
[20:19] <Hosea_Laurent> (all I have right now is a 1, 2, and 3, and he just rolled a
7, plus anything else he has left over =p)
[20:19] <Dog_Wrangler> Raise (7, 1): "Why don't you go back to your flocks,
sheepdog, and leave the wolves of the mountains to one who is called to serve
them."
[20:20] <Jezebel> (whatcha got left for traits?)
[20:20] <Dog_Wrangler> (I've got 5 5 1 left)
[20:20] <Dog_Wrangler> he's got arrogance of youth at 2d10
[20:21] <Dog_Wrangler> take that shit and punch him.
[20:21] <Jared_Claire> (Bring in that arrogance)
[20:21] <Dog_Wrangler> or, heck. shoot him. he's an arrogant heretic.
[20:21] <Cyrus_Ben> (don't shoot him! Oh, shit!)
[20:21] <Hosea_Laurent> Yeah, tired of this talkin'. He's lyin'! And he's gonna
admit it!
[20:22] <Dog_Wrangler> roll Body then.
[20:22] <Hosea_Laurent> #roll 4[1d6]

[20:22] <Jezebel> (yeah!)
[20:24] <Jezebel> (call in the coat - 2d8 - something like "are you mocking this
garb of the King's watchdogs?"
[20:24] <Cyrus_Ben> (hit him with the coat!)
[20:25] <Hosea_Laurent> Take the Blow, 5 + 2 + 1: Hosea explodes with a punch,
knocking Ezekial to the ground. "Wolves get shot, brother. They get shot and
killed and you know who feeds on them? The dogs. Cos it was a man who shot the
wolf. (more)"
[20:25] <Hosea_Laurent> "I'm the Dog, brother. King's the man with the gun."
[20:27] <Dog_Wrangler> (and your Raise?)
[20:27] <Hosea_Laurent> Raise 5 + 6: Hosea kicks Ezekial in the ribs. "The wolves
don't care what you think." Kick. "The wolves care what you did. What you pissed
on, what you stole, what you said." Kick. "Tell the Dog what the Wolf did,
brother. Or you go back to them."

[20:29] <Dog_Wrangler> that's more like it.
[20:30] <Hosea_Laurent> (I dunno, is my long-ass pauses worth it at least? or am I
dropping the ball? I know there was conversation in the AP thread about it, but I
LIKE instant polling numbers..)
[20:31] <Cyrus_Ben> (it's fine. Just don't get distract. pay attention to the
scene while you're in it.)
[20:31] <Jezebel> (Not sure what you're meaning; I don't think you're dropping the
ball, though.)
[20:31] <Hosea_Laurent> (I'm here and looking at the screen, I'm just having a hard
time coming up with decent responses)
[20:31] <Dog_Wrangler> Take the Blow (6, 4, 1): Ezekiel, completely surprised in his
arrogant confidence, takes Hosea's blow across the jaw and falls down on top of
the sledge, you can hear a crack as his ribs hit the metal.
[20:32] <Jezebel> (yer doing fine)
[20:32] <Hosea_Laurent> (oh, wow, nice use of the sledge die)
[20:34] <Dog_Wrangler> Raise (5, 5): "Destroying the truth doesn't make you right.
Not in the eyes of the King. Not anymore than the 'savages' who burned his
mission." He picks up a shaft of blackened timber.

[20:38] <Hosea_Laurent> See 6 + 4: "Hah! You're still just a savage, "Ezekial!" You
say all the words, but it's nothing in your mouth!" He violently knocks the timber

with the other.
[20:38] <Cyrus_Ben> (I know he doesn't. I'm just noting that pacifism is bad-ass.)

[20:45] <Hosea_Laurent> I roll d4s and d6s.. how many?
[20:45] <Dog_Wrangler> I get 3 dice of Physical.
[20:45] <Dog_Wrangler> You didn't take any Physical Fallout.
[20:45] <Hosea_Laurent> oh, it's all Take the Blow, right?
[20:46] <Jezebel> yup.
[20:46] <Dog_Wrangler> 7d4 for Hosea.
[20:46] <Hosea_Laurent> well, I took the Blow for 4 dice during Talking, and then I
also took 3 more dice when I Escalated

be: These Boots Were Made for Talkin')
[20:48] <Jezebel> lol
[20:49] <Dog_Wrangler> Ezekiel takes short term "Cracked Ribs 1d4" for the next
conflict, if there is one.
[20:49] <Hosea_Laurent> So, Ezekial gives. Hosea gets what he wants to hear: why the
Mountain People want his butt so bad.
[20:49] <Dog_Wrangler> right.
[20:49] <Hosea_Laurent> I have Short Term, right? It's two highest dice, 4 + 3 = 7?
[20:49] <Jezebel> yup
[20:50] <Dog_Wrangler> Ezekiel killed one of the Mountain People in his efforts to
escape their captivity of the converts. The town is harboring a murderer who the
Mountain People want to deal with according to their traditions.
[20:51] <Dog_Wrangler> How's that?
[20:51] <Hosea_Laurent> That's fine.
[20:52] <Jezebel> cool. Could we get it as Ezekial would have said it, though?
[20:52] <Dog_Wrangler> Brother Zachariah wrings his hands when he hears this and
starts yelling at Ezekiel. Apparently, this is news to him.
[20:52] <Dog_Wrangler> Sure.
[20:53] <Dog_Wrangler> Ezekiel gets to his knees, clutching his ribs, and spits a
blob of blood on the ground at Hosea's feet. "What do you want to hear, sheepdog?
That I'm a murderer? That I killed one of my own? They were holding us against
our will." (more)
[20:54] <Dog_Wrangler> "We continued to worship the King in secret, of course,
performing ceremonies in the desert to His Holy Name, where no one could see us,
but it would surely mean death if we were discovered." (more)
[20:54] <Dog_Wrangler> "I could not live the lie anymore. I must return and do as
the King had ordered me to do. I must rebuild the home of his brown children.
And... there was a man standing in my way. What else could I do?"
[20:55] <Dog_Wrangler> He glances at his sledge.
[20:55] <Dog_Wrangler> "There was no choice."
[20:55] <Hosea_Laurent> Hosea looks down at Ezekial impassively. "Yeah. That's what
I wanted to hear." Zachariah starts up, and the dog interrupts him: "Brother. Help
Brother Ezekial. Bind his chest or call your physician; pride and secrecy cause
such terrible wounds."
[20:56] <Hosea_Laurent> So.. we can probably move on from Hosea from here..
[20:56] <Dog_Wrangler> sweet.
[20:56] <Dog_Wrangler> cut.
..and there's Hosea's scene! Danny/Esau couldn't play tonight, so this was just Jez, Cyrus, and Jared headed up to speak to the Mountain People encampent. Since this post is getting so long, I'll do their scene in a reply, just to break it up a bit.

[20:56] <Jezebel> kick ass scene, gents.
[20:56] <Dog_Wrangler> so, how much do we want to tackle today? looks like we might
need another week.
[20:57] <Hosea_Laurent> his short-term fallout will be -1 dice to Heart. He's.. not
feelin' so great about how he handled this. He was RIGHT, but.. there should've
been a better way, a Laurent way. Ezekial didn't even fight back."
[20:57] <Dog_Wrangler> I say we have the dogs visit the settlement and see how they
react, and then leave it for a cliffhanger ended next week.
[20:57] <Hosea_Laurent> And don't ever let me be in a scene by myself again, that
was nuts. I'm so sorry, guys.
[20:57] <Dog_Wrangler> no, it's cool. we were really going by the end, there.
[20:57] <Jezebel> To echo someone from last week: Hosea, if we had Fan Mail, you'd
so be getting it for that fallout.
[20:58] <Cyrus_Ben> Let's see how long the settlement scene takes, okay?
[20:58] <Jezebel> Cool.
[20:59] <Jared_Claire> Sorry, I got called away to a phone call. I'm back now.
[20:59] <Hosea_Laurent> We went 2-3 more hours past this last time, maybe we can do
it again ^^
[20:59] <Hosea_Laurent> Jez: re: fan mail: thanks ;)
[20:59] <Dog_Wrangler> So, to get to everyone else: Esau is feeling a little
uncomfortable after dinner and says that you should all go on to the settlement
without him. You wonder if it isn't also because he's not quite ready to confront
some issues.
[21:00] <Dog_Wrangler> Assuming the rest of you are heading on, you mount up your
horses and head off towards the Mountain People's settlement, coming up over the
ridge to see the moon shining down among the huts and bonfires.
[21:00] <Cyrus_Ben> Okay, who are we? Jezebel Jared and Cyrus, right?
[21:01] <Dog_Wrangler> yup.
[21:01] <Jezebel> ayup
[21:01] <Jared_Claire> Jared's letting Jezebel take the lead. She's the one who
wants to go now, he's just not going to let her wander around by herself in the
dark.
[21:02] <Cyrus_Ben> (oh dear. my misogyny is warring with my cowardice.)
[21:02] <Jezebel> Jez is OK with that. She starts picking her way through the
moonlight, not bothering to sneak up.
[21:02] <Cyrus_Ben> Cyrus is kind of out riding next to her, looking very nervous.
He clearly doesn't want her to be out front alone, but even more clearly doesn't
want to be there.
[21:03] <Dog_Wrangler> Okay, it becomes obvious, after a few moments, that they're
expecting you. They must have seen you ride up from the valley. A large mass of
people have gathered around a central bonfire, armed with rifles and hatchets, and
are watching your approach expectantly.
[21:03] <Jezebel> Ok, shall we frame this as conflict right away?
[21:04] <Dog_Wrangler> I don't think you know exactly who you're dealing with yet,
but you could go ahead and roll dice, if you want.
[21:04] <Jared_Claire> Why? Seems likely they'll want to tell us their beef.
[21:04] <Cyrus_Ben> We don't know what we want yet, is the problem.
[21:04] <Dog_Wrangler> Are you trying to get something from the whole tribe?
[21:04] <Cyrus_Ben> What we want depends on what they want.
[21:04] <Jezebel> Not really, I guess it can wait until we know who's in charge.
[21:05] <Jezebel> Jez rides right up through the tents towards the fire.
[21:05] <Hosea_Laurent> It'd probably be pretty easy to get the truth from these
guys, so that's no good =p[
[21:05] <Cyrus_Ben> Let's play it out. Maybe there isn't a conflict.
[21:06] <Jared_Claire> Jared hums quietly to himself as he follows, low enough that
only Jez and Cyrus can hear. It's probably a cover for nerves.
[21:06] <Dog_Wrangler> Okay, you ride between two columns of warriors and reach the
central fire, where a trio of leaders (more ornamentally dressed than the others)
and seated, waiting.
[21:06] <Dog_Wrangler> One is female, the other two are male.
[21:07] <Cyrus_Ben> Cyrus is staring, and trembling quite clearly.
[21:08] <Jezebel> Jez sits her horse, waiting for some indication of welcome or
hospitality. Their home, their job to welcome us.
[21:08] <Cyrus_Ben> (is anyone saying anything, or are we all just staring at each
other?)
[21:09] <Jared_Claire> Jared looks at Jez and Cyrus, then clears his throat and
calls "Good evening."
[21:09] <Dog_Wrangler> The stare at you.
[21:09] <Dog_Wrangler> They stare at you.
[21:10] <Dog_Wrangler> One of the men leans over to the woman and says something you
don't understand.
[21:10] <Dog_Wrangler> She nods back at him.
[21:10] <Dog_Wrangler> He laughs, loudly.
[21:11] <Jezebel> "All right, I'm not long on patience tonight. I'm Jezebel, and I
want to know why you're here."
[21:12] <Dog_Wrangler> The woman says, in the English of a native speaker: "You have
no authority here. But if you give us the witch-boy, we'll be on our way."
[21:13] <Jared_Claire> "Why do you want the witch-boy?"
[21:15] <Dog_Wrangler> She says something to the second man, who answers her. She
translates: "The demons are displeased with him, for he has turned against them
and taught others to do likewise. He must be punished and the order restored."
[21:15] <Cyrus_Ben> (Do you think we ought to be in conflict right now?)
[21:15] <Dog_Wrangler> sure, if you want.
[21:15] <Dog_Wrangler> do you know what you want?
[21:15] <Jared_Claire> (Just debating that myself.)
[21:15] <Cyrus_Ben> (What is at stake: do they listen to us? Do they let us go
alive?)
[21:15] <Jezebel> I'm not sure we have stakes yet...
[21:16] <Jared_Claire> (Heh, where's your ambition? Jared's about to claim Ezekial
as his and that they have no authority over him any more. But whether we get out
alive may be more to the point.)
[21:16] <Dog_Wrangler> well, I don't think they're going to kill you now. but if
you don't work something out, there's a good chance they might attack the town.
so how about that for stakes: do they attack the town at sunrise?
[21:17] <Cyrus_Ben> (That sounds great.)
[21:17] <Hosea_Laurent> Stake is-- okay, once again I'm slow, yeah ;)

No, indeed."

not ready to fire yet, but expecting to be shot.
[21:59] <Jared_Claire> #roll 3[1d6]
[21:59] -RPGServ:#Dogs- <Roll for Jared_Claire [3[1d6]]: 2 6 1 >
[21:59] <Dog_Wrangler> hit 'em with the Raise, Ben.
[22:00] * Cyrus_Ben says directly at the man and says in slow, halting, but very
clear and precise language. "Hasa te aratoi nakana. Nei te aratoi amani. Neia
te aratoi ikinima."
[22:00] <Cyrus_Ben> <Translation "I give unto you the gift of my justice. None
within my bosom shall be denied it. None within this earth shall be spared it.">
[22:00] <Cyrus_Ben> Raise 10, 6
[22:01] <Cyrus_Ben> (I have a justification for this, but I can give it later, if
you want to save time.)
[22:01] <Jezebel> (damn baby!)
[22:01] <Dog_Wrangler> The man looks from the Speaker to some of his fellows and
back at the Speaker.
[22:01] <Jezebel> Jez's head twists near off her head, lookin at Cyrus.
[22:01] * Cyrus_Ben pauses briefly, as if waiting for Hosea, then says "book of the
faith, 1:2"
[22:01] <Jezebel> (erm, neck)
[22:03] <Dog_Wrangler> He smiles slowly, and in broken English says, "It is for all
people, throughout all time, forever more."
[22:03] <Dog_Wrangler> "1:3"
[22:04] <Dog_Wrangler> Give.
[22:04] <Cyrus_Ben> Okay.
[22:04] <Dog_Wrangler> The man turns his gun towards the Speaker.
[22:04] <Dog_Wrangler> Follow up conflict!
[22:04] <Cyrus_Ben> oh yeah.
[22:04] <Jezebel> totally.
[22:04] <Dog_Wrangler> But we'll have to do that next time.

RE: [DITV] Dogs in the IRC: Sorrow part II
To recap:
Hosea lives dinner, tries to find out the real story from Ezekial.. but goes into it a bit prejudiced already. Some bad rolls on the player's part, and a spectacularly great "verbal" performance on Jon's part, gets Hosea to Escalate the conflict. He winds up trying to beat a confession out of Ezekial.. which, in the end, it could be said wasn't really successful at all. Zeke just decided to give, rather than fight back. Result: Hosea gets his answer, but is also some kinda failure.
Jezebel, Jared, and Cyrus ride up to speak with the Mountain People. There's some tense negotiations, and when we cut for the evening, it looks like some of the tribe has turned on their Speaker, thanks to Jez generally being filled with His badassitude and Cyrus working some word-magic.
Next session should see Sorrow wrapped up and judged.
