Hey folks,

Just like the title says, I'm looking to expand the resources pages on Flames Rising. I'm looking for Essays & Articles related to Horror & Dark Fantasy Gaming, General tips & tools on running RPGs, RPG support material (pending permission from the publisher, of course) and anything else that fits the themes of the site and is useful to the readers.

So, got an idea on how to improve horror games? Want to tell people about your convention experiences? Shoot me an e-mail, I'm open to a variety of ideas. matt@flamesrising.com

Indie Publishers, I'd love to help support your Horror & Dark Fantasy Games. Let me know if I can host fan-based fiction, adventures and other support materials on my site. I'll include a link to your product with the material so folks will be able to find out what inspired the entry. If you'd like to show off something related to your game, let me know.

Regards,

I can point you to a couple of articles that might help.

Horror in Roleplaying is an essay on how to produce game play that feels like horror. It considers a lot of the different approaches to horror in other genres, from what I remember.

My own Game Ideas Unlimited: Haunting provides some design advice on running a haunted house as a scenario. GO is talking about making these articles freely available in the not too distant future.

In the same series, Game Ideas Unlimited: Control suggests how to create fear, looking at the elements that prevent us from being unafraid and discussing how to take those away from the players.

I'm curious as to whether our products would at all qualify for inclusion in your links. Multiverser is not a horror game, but there are a couple of horror settings for it. At present, the only one I can recall that is in print is Post-Sympathetic Man in The Second Book of Worlds, but I know that The Web is slated for The Third Book of Worlds (publication delayed by computer problems). Obviously these books are not themselves horror gaming products; they contain horror gaming products within them. I won't be offended if you don't think they qualify.

Matt, check out the last issue of Daedalus: http://www.chimera.info/daedalus/

That issue was devoted to horror, and there may be a couple articles of the kind you're looking for. The authors retain the rights to their work, but you can contact them. They may be happy to let you use the articles as well.

Matt,

I own DaemonEye Publishing, and one of my products is the Sci-Fi/Horror game "Dead Stars". It is an open-gaming product line, and I would be happy to link up with you.
