I must just be a little too rational for this...

No, but plastic dice are often anything but Laplace. A friend of mine tested some of his dice by rolling them a few thousand time. I don't quite remember the results, but with some dice, certain numbers were significantly more likely to come up.

Hence, there may be something to legends of lucky ten-siders etc.

Of course, there are also loaded dice. One thing I've never seen, but which should work very well is just labelling a d6 4, 4, 5, 5, 6, 6. Technically, you could notice that something is amiss (even without examining it in your hand), but people won't even notice a d6 which is labelled with 5s only. (I got a couple of those. Mix or swap 'em with normal d6s and you can cheat very effectively. Not that I ever did, except when impersonating an NPC gambler waaay back.)

Back when I first started playing Vampire in 1994 or so, I bought a couple handfuls of these unofficial "vampire" dice: black d10s, with somewhat sharper sides than most "regular" RPG dice, and in place of the "1" there was a rose. The first batch I bought had numbers (and rose) printed in white ink (I promptly filled in the roses with a red Sharpy, and they promptly faded to a mocking pink), and subsequent sightings were of red ink.

They sucked ass.

I consistently botched rolls that had no business being botched -- we're talking pools of 5 or more dice. It colored the tone of the whole campaign. I ended up throwing a lot of them across the room. Eventually, most if not all of them got lost under large pieces of furniture or eaten by family canines. I'm no longer hanging out with the person at whose house they were kept, so I don't know if they still have any of them on hand. If they did, I'd advise them to toss them, and get some of those nifty transparent ice-blue d10s we had when we started playing Cyberpunk. At least those gave us our fair share of 10s.

I have a set of those! And, yes, they suck complete and utter ass. I bought them in high school and haven't used them in five or more years, except as loaners. Naturally, they roll nothing but 6 or higher for anyone who's not me.

Also, aside from that experience, I do have a friend seems to be cursed himself as far as dice go. I mean, I've seen him fumble four times in a row on a d20, using different dice. He finally got fed up and bought some laser-cut dice, but even they only seem to help marginally. Doesn't seem to matter what system, either. If it's roll under, he rolls high; if it's roll over, he rolls low. Makes for great comedy, though, in a lame and pathetic loser kind of way.

Let me just weigh in on the suckyness of those rose dice. Not only did they suck ass, they went out late at night cruising for ass just so that they could suck some more.

Hell.

Actually, the dice never caused me any problems.

Sigh. All right, amusing as it might be, this thread is clearly not a discussion of anything important. I can think of a few other websites or blogs where it'd fit in fine, but this isn't one of'em.

So, closed.

Best,
Ron
