Pen and Paper/Tabletop RPGs: Marketing

My name is Ryan Todd, long time lurker, first posting. I am a PnP/Tabletop game designer. Gods and Nemesis (the company I work for) has created an online pole - that is based on the pen and paper gaming market. This market research will help us in our continuous studies regarding the RPG industry and its future. We are also throwing in the chance to win an Amazon gift certificate for your valuable time. I will share the results of the poll with the forum, as I know many players and designers alike could benefit from this information. Thanks for your time!

The winner will be posted on the G&N web-site once the contest ends. All entries must be in by: July 16th, 2005

We got great feedback from our market poll, and would like congratulate

Monica Valentinelli on her winning post. You can see her prize and picture at:

As stated in the first post, I will provide some information you may, or may not, find relevant. To keep from having a boring data filled posting, I will just place the #1, #2 answers to a few of our questions. If you would like a complete listing of info, you can e-mail me at gatekeeper@godsandnemesis.com and I would be happy to send it to you. We allowed everyone to answer freely, without selection choices. The answers where then categorized for our study prior to game launch.

1. What motivates you to buy a tabletop or pen and paper RPG?

- #1 answer: Story/Setting, #2 Good Mechanics and Word of Mouth tied

2. How can we bring the fans back? (Assuming a vast majority has left)

- #1 answer: Simplify #2 Advertise

3. What makes an RPG great?

Is it quick skirmish battles, good story,

willing players, miniatures, expansions,

quick setup?

-#1 answer: Campaign/Story, #2 answer: Simple Play

4. "Would you buy from a company you never heard of?

And if (yes/no) why? "

- 75% said: Yes if the cost was low

I appreciate everyone who took the time to answer our poll. Look forward to gaming with you now that G&N has been released to the public.

Thanks

Ryan
