[DitV] Internal Conflicts

The other night, Fi (my lovely wife) and I worked through a character creation session for a Star Wars variant of Dogs.  It went fairly smoothly.  The character accomplishment raised a few questions however.

The hope that Fi chose was, 'I hope my character learned to overcome his anger' but after we threw around a few ideas it became, 'I hope my character resists the temptation of revenge'.  The stage was Raven (Fi's character) and his Jedi master have tracked down a fugitive.  The fugitive was chased into a ruined building and the Jedi master ordered Raven to remain outside. A battle ensured inside and Raven caught his first glimpse of the fugitive, the man who had murdered his parents. The stakes for the conflict were, 'Does Raven give into hate and attack?'  The conflict was internal.  It was all the heavy thoughts in Raven's head.

The questions we had were:

1) What should Fi roll? The arena wasn't Talking, Physical, Fighting or Lightsabres.  We chose Will + Heart as they seemed most appropriate to the conflict at hand, but now I kind of think that we should have used Acuity + Heart for Talking (i.e. Talking to yourself).

2) If this weren't an accomplishment conflict, what, as GM, would I roll? Neither of use knew but after a bit of reading after the session, I thought it might be 4d6 plus demonic influence.  Is that right?

3) Since we are both playing different sides of Raven, when a belonging comes into play, do we both get the dice?  We played it that the player that brings it into play get's the dice and then its off limits for other player.

4) Could she have escalated the conflict?  At the time, I couldn't see how but thinking about afterwards, I think with the right raises, maybe she could have (e.g. running away from the combat for Physical, jumping into the combat for Fighting, calling out for Talking, etc).

Despite our questions, we resolved the conflict to our satisfaction.  But I'm still uncertain how to handle internal conflicts in Dogs.

Thanks,
Charles

You handled it just right!

Yes, acuity + heart.
Yes, 4d6 + demonic influence.
Yes, "who brings it in gets its dice" is a good rule.
Yes, she can escalate and you can't.

Right on!

I'm interested in the Jedi in the Vineyard setting... what kinds of changes aside from Lightsabers instead of guns did you make? What kind of principles are the Jedi sworn to uphold, and what authority do they act under, etc?

Questions for another thread, I think.  You start it and I'm there.
