[Play Right!] Matrix Sequels
I gave Play-Write! a whirl last night.
It was a bit more difficult to find a story 4 people were all familiar/invested in than either I thought or the text would imply. There was a lot of good ideas(Grease with more of a message, The little mermaid, the frog prince, star wars prequels, neon genesis evangelion) That I would've really like to have played through, but 1 or 2 people had no knowledge of so they were vetoed. We settled on re-doing the Matrix sequels, and it took about 40+ minutes to choose, which felt pretty damn long at the time.
The investment mechanic was working pretty nicely as a tool to show where the group intereast was (heavily into the occult order of programs, The Order of the Secret Codex, and general ideas like "The Matrix is falling apart", and rather low in a few minor, single-player-based intereast areas, such as the Oracle.)
I also really dug the basic method of winning endpoints - It's this weird combination of Capes and a stock market, where you win for investing in things that people were intereasted in opposing - But felt the common reinvestment cycle a little overbearing, but not really tedious, because it is an intrinsicly interasting activity. There wasn't really a large acknowledgement on the worth of endgame points - People didn't want to 'win' the game, they wanted resources of some kind they could actually use with in the game, but the process was fun.
Several players were quite intereasted in the system. I'm leaning quite abit on running a second session of it. I'd really love to see if there was ever any rewrites or revisions.
