Hi folks,
Well, the website for it is totally not ready yet (which is my fault), but here's the relevant info.
DemonCon I
June 1, 2002, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM
DePaul University, Student Activities Center
Activities: eight 2-hour blocks of scheduled games; open gaming tables
Vendors: various Chicago-area gaming, comics, and SF stores
As far as accomodations are concerned, nothing official exists. Since the primary target for the con is the DePaul student community, nothing official is likely to exist. Therefore out-of-towners best choices include:
- organizing shared hotel accomodations
- crashing with Dav, me, or other Chicago people "while supplies last"
Best,
Ron

Ok, so its a one day event then? not June 1-2 as previously indicated?
How do you get 8 2-hour blocks from 10-6?
For me I'll be up north in Oakbrook IL starting Friday afternoon (May 31), rather than drive home and then back on Saturday, I'd just as soon hang around Chicago starting then.
Anyone with available accomodations or who wants to share a room somewhere near the university Friday night let me know.
(Anyone with some interesting activity for Friday night also let me know).

This broken femur ate my vacation time, so I won't be able to make it. If anyone runs a game of mine let me know. ;-) (Yeah, bloody likely.)

Hey Ralph,
Yes, it's one day only. The previous "indication" was speculative.
"How do you get 8 2-hour blocks from 10-6?"
By running two tracks concurrently. Thus, at any given moment, two tables are being used for scheduled gaming (two separate groups) and others are being used for pickup games.
Best,
Ron

Two-hour blocks? I presume a lot of games would take two blocks to run. Most cons run 3-hour slots with an hour's break inbetween.

Hi Gareth,
These play sessions are going to be a little different from the usual con demo. Character creation, for instance, will not be involved as much. The people running the games are used to short blocks based on how the campus group has been conducted, and I don't anticipate any problems.
Best,
Ron

Not that Gareth will be there at DemonCon, anyhow.
And that may be the format for European conventions, Gareth, but not for conventions like Origins and GenCon, which use two and four hour block structures. Which Gareth the Mightly Conventioneer would know if he'd actually attended GenCon last year instead of sending a miniscule proxy in his stead.
;-)
So, when will we be getting the chance to introduce you to the American method of Convention organization, Herr Hanrahan?
Ron, sounds good to me. I assume more details will be available (such as directions to the hall, and what's being played) when the website is up?

Hi Mike,
Cut Gareth some slack; he impoverished himself to be at GenCon in 2000. And Cat was a charming substitute.
Yes, directions and scheduling should be forthcoming during this week.
Best,
Ron
Edited in, May 8, 10:20 am CST: the website for DemonCon is here. Please don't enlighten me regarding its primitive nature or offer to spiff it up. Also, the maps are going to be added later this week.

Hey, looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow in ChiTown (or in close proximity). Going to be a blast I think.

Hi there!
I have the brochures, games are scheduled, and lots more.
Unfortunately, I decided not to run Le Mon Mouri officially - we all agreed to keep the scheduled play as PG-13 as possible, and LMM just can't be done that way. But I'll bring it anyway and run it informally in the "open gaming" tables.
If possible, folks, arrive early in the con-schedule. It'll be a bummer for my students if they show up and "nothing happens" for the first couple of hours. Email to coordinate with me if necessary.
Best,
Ron

Hi DemonCon Folk,
For the benefit of those not able to fly 2000 miles for one day of fun, make sure to take plenty of mental notes during the games. It'll be great to see different sytsems and specific sessions discussed from different points of view.
It will also be great to get some feedback on "Du Paul style" play for those of us who have never seen it action, by those who find themselves suddenly immeresed in it.

Yeah...I'm not going to be there either. But if I was, people would be sure to take note of my personal RuPaul style of play.

DePaul, DePaul, DePaul....! Second time I've typed it on this board, got it wrong both times!
Thanks,
