So, I’ve just wrapped up my Dogs game, and am a huge fan of the system. I love the way the narrative control shifts from player to player, and the way the characters evolve so quickly and distinctly.

Having done ‘straight’ Dogs, though, I’m now looking for something new to do with it, and have been looking at my oMage stuff-I now want to do Euthanatos in the Final Days, with PCs playing Euthanatos mages policing the Traditions as the world falls apart, freaky buddhist-goth enforcers deciding who lives and who dies.

So, how does this work? I’m thinking the spheres probably map to traits, and Magic replaces Guns as the d10 fallout thing. I’m not sure how the town creation rules change, although something like ‘Jhor’ or 'Entropy' could replace ‘Demonic Influence’ which puts the PCs in a different position to who they are in Dogs-they’re tainted by the thing they’re fighting against.

So, what do people think? Does it have legs? What do the town creation rules look like?

Well, I'm a big fan of mage, an especially the Euthanatos, so I think this idea could be very interesting. The Euthanatos you've protrayed are similar in role to the Dogs, so I think it would work out ust fine. Magic would indeed be the d10 fallout thing, and maybe magical or enchanted items would get the + 1d4 instead of guns. Especially the part about deciding who lives and who dies would be cool.

As far as town creation, I think it could be done in a similar manner, although you could have Jhor infesting an area, killing people who shouldn't die and keeping those who should alive, maybe. The players would be marked with the same thing they're fighting, which could lead to some intersting morality questions. I certainly think its a good thought, but I'm not sure how you would go about doing towns.

You're right, Magic should get the extra d4 instead of guns, and be linked to Paradox fallout. The Fallout system itself I can use without changing, I think.

In addition, I've had the beginnings of an idea about how to do towns, riffing off the buddhist-goth thing:
We start with DESIRE which manifests as SUFFERING. Desire is when you want something you don't need, or want something too much. SUFFERING, in turn, leads to EXTREMISM, as the individual's behaviour becomes more extreme in an attempt to alleviate their suffering. EXTREMISM leads to SOMETHING, which manifests as SOMETHING ELSE, which leads to DESTRUCTION, Oblivion manifesting and swallowing things. I'm not sure what the stages between EXTREMISM and DESTRUCTION are yet-any thoughts?

'Oblivion' takes the place of demonic influence. If the worst the PCs have seen is SUFFERING, it's 2d10. If it's the EXTREMISM that's 3d10 and DESTRUCTION is 4d10. I'm tossing up having the PCs 'Jhor' dice (which I'm thinking will be a type of fallout from killing/interacting with death) add to the 'Oblivion' pool.

My two cents: As a rule, I think that by -at latest- 4d10, the problem should have gotten organized somehow. In vanilla Dogs, that's the point of False Priesthood, where a leader has emerged among the sinners.

And with the supernatural dial turned up this high, the names for the steps have got to be appropriately sonorous and evocative. The characters are swimming in some deep shit, let's let the players know that just by the names. So:

EXTREMISM can be replaced by 3d10: MADNESS (as a less-technical, more-visceral term for the same thing, and to lead to...)
4d10: CORRUPTION. The madness has infected other poor souls, who follow the individual's lead to satisfy their DESIRES. Then 5d10...either DESTRUCTION, or THE NIHIL, depending on how thick you want to lay on my advice on naming.
