Possible Capes Tournament at Pandemonium in Ontario in Feb?
The Toronto Area Indie-RPG group is looking at what kinds of things we will try to have on offer at the Pandemonium Con in February next year. The con takes place in the Toronto Area (Scarborough, I think). One suggestion that has been made is the idea of a Capes Tournament, running all Saturday. I have some concerns about this, namely:
* There is really no way to predict what the turnout might be for such a thing. Last year, I had two tables of Capes (12 people) going simultaneously, with people lining up to get in. But that was a single 4 hour block.
* Because I have no way to predict, the event would have to be highly scalable. That is, it would have to be just as much fun if 6 people show up as it is if 26 people show up.
So I am opening up this question to the floor. Tony, could you perhaps post some more details on your own experiments with a tournament? Others, could you post with:
* Ideas about how a tournament could run, especially a scalable tournament.
* Thoughts on whether the turnout would make it worth doing.
* Interest, if a Capes Tournament would be enough to draw you up to Ontario for a weekend.

Hans wrote:Well before february (unless I get utterly caught up in procrastination or other delays) I should have published the entirety of the Invasion Earth Prime scenario that I use for tournaments, including all of the details of how I do it. So, y'know, I'm open to answering questions but you could also just wait :-)

No worries, Tony. I will keep an eye out for it, and ask questions if I have to start doing stuff (for example, submitting descriptions of events) before I see anything bigger.
