[Reel Adventures] Roll Film

Hi guys,
Alongside 'Peer Pressure',

http://www.indie-rpgs.com/forum/index.php?topic=21979.0

I have also been working on a game called 'Reel Adventures'. This one has been boiling at the back of my brain for a while, and is basically an attempt to allow people to tell the sort of dramatic stories you get in a good action film. I have playtested this once and the rules are now up on my blog on RPGlab

Any feedback from you guys would be appreciated. If you play it I would love to read about it as well.

Cheers
Iain

Hi Iain,

I accessed your blog to take a look at Reel Adventures, but I only see short blog entries and no content (i.e. script sheet, character sheet, etc.)  Do you need to register to the site in order to view the content?  Or am I just missing it somewhere?

Thanks,
Chris

I can see them fine, but I am registered. The attachment link is at the bottom right hand corner of each post regarding the rules, character sheet and script.

I have posted the direct links below for ease of access.

You do need to register to the site to see the downloadable content. Apologies. I will hopefully be posting up a new version of my own website tonight and will provide new links then.

Cheers

Right problem sorted. You can download the game from my own <a href="http://www.iainmcallister.co.uk">website

Downloads are in the games part of the website.

Sorry for the earlier inconvenience.

Thanks for posting the rules on your website, Iain.  I was able to give them a quick read through today and it seems like a really nice framework with some fun ideas for moving the game along.  Did you post the results of your playtest?  It would be interesting to know the areas of the rules that you felt were lacking or that weren't holding up well in play.  Some pointed questions for us would help us to help you.

RE: Re: [Reel Adventures] Roll Film

The main problem we had in the first playtest was the creation of threats. Originally I had that you could only create a threat in a nemesis scene, but now you can create them whenever you please. I need to know if this works, or if too many threats are being created.

We also had a problem with fallout from confrontations. My character was captain of a ship and my friend becki was playing a rebel on the run from the British space empire. We had a confrontation where she was trying to convince people to let her stay on the ship and described various waysshe ingratiated herself with the crew. I then rolled against her to see what the outcome would be. We drew, which meant we decided that I would let her stay on board for a little while but if too much trouble came my way she was gone. The problem is this: if that had gone against her, she would have been thrown off the ship and our characters would have been massively split. Now a film storyline would be that we would not do that or that we would somehow come back and find her or run into her again. How do I make sure that the storyline stays 'heroic' for want of a better term?

I would also like to introduce rules for fleshing out the plot nemesis like a character, giving him his own impact, connection and background points.

There is opportunity for other types of film to be emulated with this system but for now I am concentrating on action and adventure films.

Cheers
Iain
