Superfast, superslick way to get a website going, with a broad array of options, including hosting, commercial or not, all for free (at least at the basic level). The guys who own the company and wrote the software are friendly and responsive and totally committed to their product. The company I do freelance work for (an international diversity training/consultation firm) uses their tools/hosting for their websites, and raves about them.

It looks like a very cool service, and definitely a good starting place before you start publicizing your site.  My own server logs though indicate that even with minimalist publicity you can expect 5000 page views in a month, so this is probably going to cost you $20/month.  It might be worth it to use their software, especially if the guy is as friendly and helpful as you say.  Keep that price in mind though, because it could really start to hurt, especially if you have a big publicity push just before your book goes to the printer, and you don't have any revenue coming in.

The use of hypersites site-building software is free, but it of course costs you to have them host your site, $50/month in fact. Which is kinda expensive, though you do get 5 gigs of storage, multiple email accounts, the ability to sell things from the site, up to 20,000 hits allowed, and of course the tools to make a nice-looking site (nicer-looking than I could make my site look, anyhow, with my crude html skillz...)

So, a good tool, but as Clay points out, not perfect if you don't have some revenue coming in!

Interesting.

I'd stick with Dreamhost.  Pay $8 a month, get 193 GB storage that grows every week, 1.93 TB bandwidth that also grows, single-click install of Wordpress or Joomla that also give you the ability to have a good-looking site up easliy and fast...

And most importantly, you can refer the Forge and thereby do some good for this wonderful site :)

By way of disclosure I guess I should point out that I offer a similar service.  So my viewpoint may be colored.

Or GoDaddy: $4 a month for 5 GB of storage (of which I am using 0.14%! :-) ) and 250 GB of bandwidth. A stack of click-to-install software for site building. Web interface for administration--one almost doesn't need a computer to setup and run a site (just access to one, from time to time, to get on the Internet, of course).
