Hi there,

I suppose this thread could go in the Site Discussion, but frankly, I think more people will see it here.

As many of you can tell, Clinton and I are running pretty ragged. Between the Forge and the vagaries of publishing Sorcerer, we're starting to get behind on important things.

If anyone can help us with the following task, it would be greatly appreciated.

The Forge badly needs an update to the indie-games link library. Could someone look through the various posts, mainly on this forum but also elsewhere, and get a list of available new stuff? It might even be nice if someone hit rpg-index.de and did some hunting there for games we don't have on the library.

Perhaps the best thing is if someone were to be Point Man, and whoever wants to help would send links to him.

Many thanks,
Ron

If anyone wants to do this, make sure and let me know. I'll give you access to the Forge back end (that sounds extremely dirty) and an e-mail address at the Forge.

I don't have time to actively look for all the new indie RPG's, but I am putting them up as soon as I get new ones. If you know of a game we're missing, e-mail me at webmaster@indie-rpgs.com.

While I don't have the time to make a commitment, I will be extra sure to let you know of any missing/dead/new links for the list.

First off, http://www.lightningpress.com is no longer available.

RE: Request

First, I want to thank everyone for sending me a crack-load of indie RPGs. I've got more than I know what to do with.

That leads to my question: I'm going to re-do the entire links page. (I'm going to re-do the entire site, but one thing at a time.) The list has gotten so long that it's not engaging any more. I could just do two columns, but that's boring.

How would you personally divide up the page? Should we divide it by free RPGs vs. non-free RPGs? Should we divide by genre? (This is my least favorite choice.) Is there a better system?

If you can think of anything you'd use as an interface, please let us know.

The free vs. not free idea has merit. Another I think would be nice would be divided by "available or supported online" vs. "no online info".

epublished versus traditionally published also has some good points.

Hey there,

I'm thinking that we should keep the categorization to a minimum, to avoid classifying games and sites by tons of different things.

The following seem useful:
- free vs. not free
- published-book vs. not published-book (obviously this overlaps with the previous category, as no one publishes a book and makes it available for free)

So we really have three things:
- free, available as computer file
- not free, available as computer file
- not free, available as book/hard copy only

Seem like enough?

Best,
Ron

It looks like the way to categorize them is in place...but my 2c is that we make a distinction between game systems (Fudge, Color Wheel) and full-on games (Army Ants, Ghost Light).

Oh, and take Ars Mechanica off the list cuz it's not a game yet. And Eight's real location is http://www.memento-mori.com/eight

All done. I have more games to add, but all the requested changes in here are done, and I've organized the existing ones. Go check it out and comment.

Also--I know some games are printed and are available electronically. I've listed them in their most exclusive form--for example, Forgotten Futures is printed, and is available for free on the web. I've listed it as a commercial RPG in book format.

I also think a list by author would be great. This would add to the celebrity and validity of indie rpgs being author-based over big-company-based.

And if I like a game by an author, I'd like an easy way to find their others (though I guess most have a central page to get to all their games ... but these central pages aren't linked to from the Forge)

Everyone (Ron included)--

Wait until Monday on the library page. I have ideas--mad ideas that will make the world happy.

You'll be able to search by keyword, author, and title, and I'm trying to think of a good way to make everything user-submitted. If I figure it all out, each author will have a page where you will be able to write a brief message, have all your games listed, and have one graphic displayed.

Sound good to anyone/everyone?

Moose--

They'll definitely count. I'll add a field for "parent game," if that makes sense. Jared could list "Schism" for example, with "parent game" being Sorcerer.

Everyone has to send Clinton "good energy and positive light." Some girl said she was sending that to me, back when I was 16.

On second thought, don't. I seem to recall it resulted in agonizing frustration.

Seriously - thanks, Clinton!!

Best,
Ron

Just to warn everyone--go put your damn games in the library already. I worked six hours on it last night, I'm tired and irritable, and it will be the game library on the Forge in about a week.

Some feedback would be appreciated, too.

Feedback:

1. Oooh, I love being able to shamelessly self-promote my pitiful offerings.

2. Please take pity on those of us who haven't bothered to get our own spiffy 2nd level domain names and increase the character limit on those input fields -- I can't get the URL's to either my home page or the graphic I use to work, 'cause they're too long.

3. It might be nice if we could come up with some common keywords -- I noticed that you used "modern-day" where I used "modern."

4. It's super-keen, and might even inspire me to get Dead Teenagers onto the damn web.
