[Afraid] Questions about Character Creation

I've actually got more Q's than this but thought I would (a) cluster them in themed groups; and (b) not post them all at once to avoid overloading etc.

I'm trying to give my own answers as much as possible not just questions, but they're matters I'm not sure of my answer on hence the question.

1.  What do you think of an added rule:  Only Veterans may begin with any (and then only one) trait indicating an accurate knowledge of the supernatural (as in "experience spotting the signs of supernatural forces" ~ those wilted roses aren't just any wilted roses).

2.  Can characters have relationships with other player characters (starting or taking them in play)? In DitV one can have a relationship with the Dogs (presumably that means the other Dogs with you).  I'm inclined to say "not as starting relationships, but afterwards you can assign unassigned to such relationships".

3.  Must the Monster respect the “no more than 3 dice on a trait” rule (initially)?  I'm inclined to say "yes" (though I didn't respect this in my vampire write up).  The Monster gets better than 1d4 size bond dice, is there any starting limit on how many dice the Monster assigns to one bond?  I would say no, as actually it benefits the Monster to spread out among multiple bonds in terms of "not all eggs in one basket anyway".

4.  Vincent mentioned ditching the NPC rules in Afraid (which defaults to DitV ones then).  For GM characters, if they're NPC's not in Monster's Victim/Slave/Acolyte stable, do they have circumstances?  I’m inclined to make it like “Bonds” so most have none, a few one, and a few two.

Particularly if NPC’s don’t have circumstances, that means that in a conflict with a NPC who's not part of Monster's plot, short term fallout on GM's NPC, if there is no follow up conflict, means the GM must reveal something about Monster because the GM’s character can’t take a circumstance. That doesn't seem to fit so well (revealing something about he Monster if a conflict was just with the Victim’s drunken brother who mistakenly blames someone else and had to be held off them etc.)

5.  Making new acolytes in play.

The conflict to create an acolyte, and which victims are eligible for it – any thoughts on this?  An option for the monster to try for in the final victimization conflict (which means no leveling up - per my vampire example in monters post), where the relationship dice are coincidentally at the 4d10 an acolyte has?  The conflicts would vary, in some cases the Acolyte surviving an ordeal/test (since PCs must be drawn in, one that may bring them into conflict with PC's etc.), in others the Monster persuading the victim to "come over" (in one the victim turns on PC's, in the other the PC's must strive to stop her making that choice).

(yes, spellchecked this post, unlike my last one)
6.  Monster Belongings

If a German shepherd or horse can be a PC belonging, can a "pack of wolves" or similar be a monster belonging?  I would say so.

1. No good. Naive intuition can give a person very accurate knowledge.

2. They can. There's no possibility of abuse; the restriction isn't necessary.

3. You're right: yes, no.

4. Only PCs have circumstances, ever. Give the bonus dice; I'm going to drop the "for followup" limit on those. You can use the nonhuman NPC rules for human NPCs.

5. Dunno. I haven't thought about it.

6. If the wolves are nightmarish, they should be nightmarish resources.

Thanks, and the dropping of "for followup" conditions on handing over bonus dice in fallout eliminates a couple of other questions I had about how that worked in various scenarios.

The nonhuman NPC rules for human NPCs?  Any particular reason not DitV's proto NPC's to fleshed out NPC's approach?

Use both or either!

Eventually Afraid will have solid NPC rules of its own, but that day is not yet.
