I am finishing up a shorter RPG I have made, and was wondering:What is the general opinion here. Is it better to publish it as a sellable PDF, or as a POD? Both Lulu.com and another site offer both services.

Is there a reason you want to do either/or?  A lot of people do both at different price points.  Aside from a bit of extra layout work, there's not much of a drawback to that approach.

Hi there,

I recommend checking out this not-too-old thread: POD vs. distributors, which lays out and clarifies a lot of issues that will be useful to you.

If you have any questions after that, I'll be happy to help with them.

Best, Ron

I have no problem doing both, I'm just asking, if you were looking for an online RPG, would you want to buy it in POD or PDF format? This way I know which one might be more likely bought, since my market audience is roleplayers.

ps.would you reccomend Lulu or drivethroughRPG?

If you want to do market analysis, there are much better methods than opinion polling at the Forge... Actually, now that I think of it, why don't we have a basic primer about market research around here? Shouldn't be too hard to whip up some basic instructions for how to go about researching the attention & appeal values and potential market shares of your product. It seems we get a lot of questions about the market appeal of different details.

Anyway, asking at the Forge is just about the worst option if you just want representative unbiased customer opinions. It's not just that most of us here are exceptionally interested and market-aware compared to your average customer, but also that Ron will close your thread anyway if you're just polling people ;)
