Need playtesters/advice on our new release

Hello all -

Bryan Kowalski from Blue Kabuto here. I am not sure where this goes, so please don't flame ok? If I am posting to the wrong place let me know.

Our company will be releasing a new fight dice mini-game called "Cookie Fu - Fortune Cookie Fighters" this July/August and we need a few ginea pigs to help tweak the system and give their thoughts/feedback. It's a quick mini game - average play time is about 10-15 min, but we want to make sure we're on the right track.

Cookie Fu is a fast and furious Fight Dice game where two players battle against each other to see who's fu is best! Unlock the secrets of Cookie Fu and master moves like the Sweet Flaky Kick or the Sugary Nerve Strike. Fun, fast, and easy to learn, Cookie Fu is compatable with all fight dice games.

You will need 4 "expendable" six sided dice in which to paste dice icons on and a fortune cookie. This project is somewhat limited by time, so anyone interested, please email to: info@bluekabuto.com

Once again if this is not the right place, please tell me. We could really use some feedback on this and I figured the Forge would be the best place to ask..

Don't worry, there's no flaming here. There's just logical advice to improve your performance (which I think is more hurtfull...). BTW: Welcome. Anyway, we need more information. What kind of game is this? It seems to use RPG mechanics, but what the heck is it? Is it a system for combat? Is it a dumb game, used to kill time? Is it a martial art technique developed by D&D fans? (kidding on that last one.) I have about 50 d6's so I'd not have a problem, but we need more info.

Hi Bryan,

This is a fine place to post, my friend. I hope some folks have zipped you an email already.

For discussion purposes, it's a little weird when some people have access to the material and some don't, so maybe that should stay in private emails. Or maybe you'll post part of the game on a website, or maybe summarize your resolution system here, or something like that, so everyone can check it out.

Best,
Ron

More about Cookie Fu

Howdy -

Let me give you a breakdown of what cookie fu is (and isn't). Cookie Fu is the first in our series of Fight Dice mini-games. Each game comes with 3 battle dice with different icons on them used to illustrate a warrior's fighting moves. The game will also include a "initiative" dice which is very similar to rock, paper, scissors. The game will also come with a fortune cookie (I need to check out the fda standards first).

Being a mini- game is just that, normal play time runs about 15-20 min topps. It's campy, quirky and meant to be fun. Is it a time killer? I suppose - but aren't all games? Cookie Fu will be released in your standard zip lock pack so popular with indie game designers (aka Cheapass games, etc). Each fight dice pack will be compatible with others in the series, so if you wanted to battle against the other types of warriors, you can. The game will also be somewhat expandable by buying additional fight packs to make a more powerful fighter. Basically, we're providing a rough copy of the rules (which fit on about the size of 2 magic cards) and icons for the dice. We ask that you grab a friend and play it a bit. Let us know how it works (or if it doesn't) and let us know how it can be improved. Rule suggestions, change the Fu move names, etc. We have a great artist doing the look and feel to this game - his name is Niko Geyer and you can check out his work at www.nikogeyer.com

Remember, this is not rocket science here. It's not meant to be an rpg or have a huge amount of complexity, just a quick, fun, and neat little game. Any feedback you have would be appreciated. Additionally, the game will be written (tweaked) to "sound" like a fortune cookie, as if someone with bad "engrish" is talking - to further add to the fortune cookie concept.

Thanks Ron!

Ron -

Thanks for the interest in Cookie Fu. Let's hope the silence I am receiving is not an indication on how well our game will be received. Let me know your thoughts on the game.

Slow down there, Mr. Speedy. I have a bezillion finals to grade and my girlfriend's birthday to worry about, not to mention two complex RPG groups to prep for, and whatever hassle has cropped up regarding THREE major conventions this summer.

I'll get to Cookie Fu when I get to it. Be peaceful of spirit, and all good things come to you (in bed).

Best,
Ron

Ron, I wasn't complaining about you. Yours was one of the few emails I did get - thankfully. Get to it when you can.
