I'm curious what the scope of the stakes are as intended or as people use them in PTA.  Are you allowed to set stakes that determine what will happen in later scenes?  What if a later scene is really just an immediate cutaway?  Can you use stakes to determine the actions or feelings of protagonists not in the scene?

I'll use an example that came up in another thread I was reading here.  Suppose a cop is chasing a criminal down an alley.  Can you set stakes to be "impress my boss with my performance"?  Does this change if the cop's boss is also a protagonist?

I think you can apply as stakes anything that makes reasonable sense to everyone at the table.

That goes for stakes that impact later scenes as well as stakes that impact other protagonists. If they're cool with it, do it.
