[Shared Dreams] How to create Portals for players
I've been working on an idea I had some time ago. The whole roleplaying takes place in the dreams of characters. Right now it's not important how do characters project themselves into each other dreams. I came up with the whole background for shared dreams, but I'm stuck when it comes to mechanics. I thought that each player needs to prepare a few things:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Shadow: This are the facts about him that he will not willingly accept as truth.
ID: This are his drives, instincts.
Portals: This, I thought, should be a product of Shadow and ID. A Portal can be a scene ( "a mother feeding her baby" ), color, anything. Portals are gateways in the dream world.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Portal Mechanics:
When characters share a dream, one of them is the Builder. In other words, the current dream is described by the Builder. If the Builder unknowingly, or accidentaly describes something that seems to be a Portal of another character, that character can become a new Builder. This way taking control over the dream has a drawback -other characters know something more about you, and your drives, and can use it.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Problem:
Portals seem problematic to me. I can't imagine how to produce Portals for players. They seem to be the basis for a big part of the game, so I can't go further, or playtest without this. I would be gratefull for any insight on this, or the game as a whole.

Hello Nemiroff, and welcome to the Forge!
I have some questions, because as is I don't understand your game idea.
Who are the characters? What are their goals (why do they explore each other's dreams)?
What's the thing that I as a player would find grabby in your game? Is it the possibility to describe completely crazy and surrealistic dream worlds? Is it about cracking the other PC's Shadows before they discover mine? Something else?
Do you have a GM? If yes, what are her or his tasks?
