Besides the typical contemporary soap opera setting, what other campaigns have you tried with Ferry Bazelman's Soap?
I'd love to run the game, but my friends aren't wild about the setting as is.
Roy's Dark Shadows campaign sounded interesting, but I'm sure that's just the tip of the iceberg in terms of possible ideas.

I'm guessing it's a linguistical demon that keeps coercing you good people to drop the "s" off my last name. ;)

Basically, I think Soap will work for any situation where you could imagine a movie/tv script being written centered around a group of people each with their own agenda. In fact, you could do horror, action, comedy, whatever you want.

Think government agents each with their own mission, a fantasy game where you all play gods, six young people in a dark castle etc. etc.

I think SOAP would be great for running something akin to a swashbucking historical romance. Barrel chested pirates, women in corsets that kind of thing. I think the term is Bodice Ripper.

Ferry hit it right on the head.

Kenway, why don't you let the players (including your own input) decide on the setting for "Soap"? Just have everyone sit down, explain the concepts of the game, establish why they're not crazy about the setting, and ask them for suggestions on what setting they'd like to play in. You'll probably get one or two ideas that everyone really likes and may even end up combining them.
