[DitV] Play-by-Post

I recently picked up DitV, and ran a couple of RL sessions, which were fantastic. Now I'm planning to attempt to run one over on http://www.myth-weavers.com/forumhome.php, and was wondering if anyone over here's got any experience or advice that might help me.

So far my only thought has been to enforce a fairly strict 1/day posting minimum, especially during group conflicts. To keep things moving I'm thinking of ruling that if anyone misses a post they'll automatically Block/Dodge if possible, and Take the Blow if not, narrated by me. Aside from that I can't foresee any big issues coming up, but if anyone has tried this and had any, I'd love to hear about them.

Additionally, I'm fairly new to running the game in general, so any broader tips would be appreciated, and I may return for game-related advice in the future...

(I'll post a link to the ad when it's up, in case any of you want to join.)

Well, here it is: http://www.myth-weavers.com/showthread.php?t=128209

Apologies for stealing you blurb, Vincent...I can remove it if you object. Still eager to hear any ideas anyone has, but no pressure :)

I was the GM in a play-by-post game, that you can find HERE (sorry, it's in Italian)

In my experience, it works rather well in a PbP, the players moves are in sequence and nobody can "interrupt" another player during a conflict (a problem for a PbF, that many rpg have).

The only problem, but it's a big problem, is that the game is sloooooooow played like this. Much more than usual for a PbF.  In that PbF I killed all the dogs in the first city (not a uncommon end for my sessions), but just for character creation and that city, we played from November 4, 2008 to August 2, 2009:  almost 9 months! Me and the 2 players posted more than 1000 posts in that time, so we posted MORE than a post EACH every day, but it took that time anyway.

Just to compare, as a reference, when we played a PbF game of Spione with a total of 4 players, with long pauses caused by the absence of some players for weeks, it took only six months, with only 500 posts (so, if we could have kept the pace of the DitV game, it would have ended in less than five months) (you can find it HERE)

I'm something of a PbP veteran, so slowness I'm used to. Still, by implementing the post-or-Block/Dodge rule, I hope to keep things moving. Perhaps that should become the harsher post-or-Take the Blow...

Anyway, thanks for the thoughts! This thread seems to have attracted one new player over to MW, which is groovy. We've got four now, so are ready to begin. If anyone's interested I'll keep you updated on how it's going, although you're more than welcome to go and see for yourself: http://www.myth-weavers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=18806
