Another Alternate Idea

Good Morrow,

If I remember correctly I have brought this up with Lael durring one of our Universalis sessions. I'd like any comments I can get on the idea.

I was thinking of making a "Demo Deck" of sorts with pre-fab characters, places, items, a few rules gimmics, and a bit of setting. Enough that the players don't have to think right away, but can change any of it that they want to. This way players aren't bogged down with the same old setting or they can change the perspective if they don't like it.

I feel that it would help people that are new to the game learn the rules a little better. Also it may be a way to help get the jusices of creativity flowing in experienced players' brains.

Dunno. I'd like oppinions if someone wouldn't mind. Just another idea that has tore it's leg free of the steel trap that is my mind:)

Later,

Ben

I've toyed with the idea of taking the Once Upon a Time card game deck and putting the cards in sleeves and using them as prefab Components. Traits could be written on the sleeves in AV pen (just like the index card idea found here elsewhere).

Is that the sort of thing you had in mind?

If I read Noah correctly, what he's interested in is a pre-fab setting, essentially, presented on cards. Complete with traits included for the component cards, and Gimmicks written up on the cards for inclusion as needed.

It's a neat idea. One thing that we have looked at, and will have eventually, is pre-fab settings that essentially have a bunch of the start-up worked out for you very much as you suggest, Noah. The only real difference is in the presentation. I think that would be an excellent way to get this information to players. In fact, if you were to do something like draw a card each time it came to your turn, and use it for inspiration (or just include the item right off), you'd have a very interesting system for random development of stoies regarding these items.

Hmmm. I think this is something that we'll have to look at very closely. Thanks, Noah.

Yes, I believe that what he is looking at is doing something up so that you can simply sit down with people that consider themselves to be "not creative enough" and give the appearance of having most of the creative work already done so that all they have to do is to tell the story presented by the cards on hand. Letting the players change what they want to suit the story that they feel the cards tell.

It's an interesting concept that might trick people that consider themselves to be not creative enough into doing the real work of creating the story behind the cards.

It would be very interesting to see the variety of stories that come out of simply sitting people down with a group of components and letting them play "Find the Story" with what they have.

One thing that I thought of when Mike said:

Was to use decks of artwork cards: Brom, Achilleos, Hildebrandt, etc. In a manner similar to Everyway... You draw the card and then use some element of the artwork to inspire the creation of a component or event. As long as you mesh it with the story as it is forming up, it could make for some interesting twists of fate.

Did they work? Or not?
