I see these terms kicked around here frequently, and haven't been able to really find anything defining them. Could someone give me a quick overview?

They are terms from the game Sorcerer. See the Adept Press forum for more info.
Briefly, however, Kickers are starting situations that the player puts his character in that get him involved in his story right off. They "Kick-Start" the story, if you will.
Bangs are just events that happen in play. A proper Bang is one that forces one or more players to have their characters make some sort of dramatic decision. What they do not do is force a particular decision, the player should feel that the choice made was his.
There's a lot of theory on what makes good examples and how not to do each of these things. A careful search of these terms will cough up all sorts of info.

Hi Arxhon,
Here are some threads:
Using Kickers and Bangs
The hell is a Kicker?
Please see the internal links in that second discussion as well. Also, nearly any discussion of playing Sorcerer will bring the terms up as well, so check out the Adept Press forum for thread titles about that.
Best,
Ron
