POD

Hey

I'm going to use a POD service to print up The Questing Beast and I was wondering if anyone here has had experience with POD services. Especially Berryville Graphics, which I am considering trying out.

I'm aware of RPGNow's POD service, but at this point I prefer to have the books here instead of warehoused elsewhere.

Damn, that place is cheep. It's half what I was going to go with for Kayfabe and offers 4-color process for covers as opposed to digital. There has to be a catch. I am eager to hear what people have to say about this place. Have you seen any samples of their work?

I don't know if their print-on-demand stuff is done on the same machines they use for the "big boys," but Berryville does lots of work for Random House (the largest publishing house in the US). Go to a bookstore and take a book off the shelf. Usually the printer is listed on the copyright page. Sometimes it's just an abbreviation near the bottom. In this case, look for "BVG" If the publisher is Knopf, the printer will be listed at the end of the book, on the "About the Type" page. (while you're there, Knopf also lists the compositor. If it says Creative Graphics, Allentown, Pennsylvania, I may have very well laid out the book you're looking out. Cool, huh?)

Suffice it to say, I know the name and they produce good product in general, but since their POD service is new, I can't offer my unqualified recommendation.

Well, unless someone else has used them for this service, I'll be the test subject. I plan to use their POD service for TQB as early as next week.
