Excuse the pimping, but I've just written an article chock-filled with resources for anyone thinking about making their own indie game online. These aren't game design resources - they're ways to get art, web hosting, PDF distilling and the like on the cheap.

You can find the article at http://www.acid-reflex.com/articles/self_publish_cheap.html. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Clinton--

That's a really good overview of independent desktop publishing. Great work.

One of the things I love about the forge: I have yet to find a website that is as useful for indie publishing, game-related or not. For people who are interested in publishing independent RPGs, novels or short story or poetry collections, or whatever, this site rocks.

Oh, & that probable cover for your next Sorcerer supplement looks great! Where did you get it?

Great article, Clinton! But why isn't it in the Forge Articles?

There's also a shareware .PDF file maker (like 15 bucks for the full version?) ... and some utility to convert laTex to PDF or something. Anyone have those links?

Well, for the TeX utilities, you'll surely be able to track them down
at ctan.org. However, if you have any flavor of Linux installed, and
chose the TeX stuff during install, you likely already have PDFTeX,
which directly generates PDF's from TeX and LaTeX source. Just
type `pdftex' at the command line and see if you have it.

Cool article.

On the subject of cheap n cheerful web hosts, I really suggest people shop around. I pay £35 ($50) a year for my hosting (with PHP, CGI-BIN etc), and it's reasonably reliable with lots of bandwidth (5GB per month). If you need to host multiple domain names web design magazines are full of hosts who do good value reseller deals.

If you're going to use LaTeX, I recommend dvipdfm as your PDF creation technique, in combination with the hyperref package. Both tools come with most LaTeX distributions. For those of you using Windows, a great LaTeX distribution called MikTex at www.miktex.com has the tools that you need. I actually prefer it slightly to my LaTeX distribution.
