Whoa, only one thread, and that by Clinton? Come on, wallflowers!
So who's going to GenCon so far? Let's have a list, and what are your plans while you're there?
I'm going, and it'll be my first, and I'm pretty jazzed about it. I think I'll have a game ready to shill by then, and that makes me even more jazzed.
Here's my wish list for while I'm there:
*To meet a few of you folks in person and tell you in person your stuff is cool.
*To play in at least a couple games - if not many - run by their creators.
*To have someone check out my game and say, dude, I think this will be fun.
*To discover a few new cool games, and covet them.
*To be generally hedonistic for a few days. It is, after all, vacation time I'm a-spending.
Hope you's all comin'.

I'm there definitely.
I'm hoping we get a few more Forgeite games going after hours.
I've been told that St. Elmo's Steakhouse in down town Indy is the place to go for large bloody slabs of cow meat.

When is that? December or something? SoCal is much more accessible for me than Indianapolis, that's for sure.

Hey,
I'd reeeeally like for someone to step up as an organizer for a Forge booth at GenCon SoCal. Any takers?
Gotta be someone with a company who can afford the initial outlay of funds for a two-three sized booth.
Best,
Ron

Dude, someone pour Ron a beer. He's talking business
serious moment: what are we talking about here in terms of afford? From my experience with shows, booth space is priced in the thousands.

My goals would be:

--play InSpectres, TROS, and Sorcerer
--sit around and talk about stuff

Hey, can I bring my guitar? So's I can annoy all y'all with my playin'?

I live two hours away from Indianapolis, so I don't really have much of an excuse not to be there, though there is no guarantee that I'll have sufficient funds or a working car.

Dude, you gotta bring it! I don't have a flighty-worthy case, or I'd bring mine and we could form a temporary GenCon band.

It's very, VERY likely I'll make it to Indy this year. My goals are to have a finished game design to share, get into some more of the demo's, and just have one helluva fun time. Last year was great (I'm REAL glad I wandered over to the Diana Jones ceremony - that was cool!), but Real Life had left me a bit uneven going into it. No such thing will be allowed this year!!
My birthday falls during GenCon SoCal, and (mileage-wise) it's relatively close to home - gotta go there, too. I'd be thrilled to help out at any booth that materializes.

I was gutted when I heard they had pushed SoCal GenCon back to next year, I had already made plans to fly across this December for it.
Sigh. Oh well, there's always next year (although, realistically, if I'm going to come over there next year for a GenCon, I'll wait for the bigger "real" one in July.

Yeah, at one point I thought Dec 2003 SoCal was cancelled, but I thought the latest was that it was back. I figured I'd find out for sure at Indy . . .

This is from the official gencon website:
When: December 11-14, 2003
Where: Anaheim, California
Facility: Anaheim Convention Center
Anaheim is practically my backyard, so SOME of you better be there even if we don't have an official booth.

That's the problem - I'm off to South America for 6 weeks in June, and the trip finishes 18 July. By the time I could then get up to Indie, I would *just* make it for the last day of GenCon, maybe. And that's assuming I have enough money for the extra flights and accommodation, which I dont. Plus I would be with my wife, who would be bored while I wandered around like a kid in a candy store.
However, I can easily afford NEXT years GenCon, or this years December SoCal GenCon, and bring an RPG friend or two.
Hmm.. So guys, how many of you are likely to be at SoCal, and how many of you are likely to be at GenCon Indie 2004.. maybe I should decide based on that.. be good to meet some of the folks I've been chatting to for so long...
Brian.

SoCal is LoCal...you want to order the entree with all the fat and calories...that would be GenCon (the one that doesn't need a qualifying suffix).

Last year was a blast, our indie booth rocked, we played so many great games and had a helluva fun. This year, we'll repeat that and do it even better.
I plan on running the sequel to our InSpectres game. Expect the Return of Ron, the sumerian sorcerer and his Arch-Nemesis Peter.
I hope that the XIG guys will bring a drumset and bass guitar, so that we can jam!
Looking forward to meet all of you again!

Well, I expect there'll be a decent set of people. And it'll be a great pleasure to meet any and all Forge-folks who can make it! From far-flung corners of the globe . . . New Zealand - now there's a place on MY "gotta visit" list!
But the truth is, this is the first year for GenCon SoCal, and I doubt ANYONE really knows how successful it's going to turn out to be. If you've really got to pick just one, Ralph's right - GenCon Indy is the reliable, full-calorie dish. At least, that's the way it seems to me,

I played in a very nice RoS demo run by Jake last year. I will gladly in return run Nicotine Girls for a group of players including Jake this year. That is, unless there's someone who's itching to run Nicotine Girls? In that case, I'd like to play :)

ok, I did go to a group gaming event, which sort of counts, but I still consider it much to small to be an actual Con.
so, I dunno about GenCon Indy. that's a ways away, and doesn't give me too much time to figure out how to get there, how to pay for everything, &c. I'll go if I can. GenCon SoCal is more likely.

No doubt. What the fuck! What kinda bomb is that to drop on a party? How long have you been hiding the fact that you're doing this project? I see posts on the JAGS site about it. Does this mean we have to trapse on over there to check out what you're up to at every moment of the day?

I will be at Gencon with brand spankin new copies of Kayfabe for sale. I picked up a couple dozen wrestling figures off of Ebay to use as props/minitures for demos and possibly give aways for my registered demos. Will there be room for me to set up a wrestling ring on one of the big tables Ron?
My goals for Gencon are to play lots of cool games with my fellow Forgites, run as many demos as humanly possible, sell at least 20 copies of Kayfabe, and buy more gaming stuff than I can afford.
