the Jon Morris Sketchbuk Roleplaying Game

Just finished my newest roleplaying game, based on the freaky art by Jon Morris at http://www.ape-law.com.

It's a beer & pretzels affair with a great resolution mechanic. Essentially, the first person rolls a d10. Anyone who opposes adds a second d10 and rolls them both. Doubles = failure, otherwise = success. Anyone who opposes that adds a third d10, and so on. Keep adding d10s and rolling until no one challenges you, or somebody rolls doubles.

Also included: Lots of sketches, ¡¡Space Punches!! (inspired by Toon, weirdly) and a Sketch-o-Matic random-sketch button.

Anyhow, have fun and let me know what you think!!

Zak,

I love this. I don't know when or how I'm going to get a chance to play it, but at first glance, I love it.

A game that came out last year called Sketch disappointed me. This one looks like it uses similar concepts to much better effect.

Best,
Ron

Whee! Thanks!

I read the RPG.net review, but I never saw the thing. It sounds like a pretty standard rpg (as in, you have stats, and you roll against stats) with the gimmick of drawing your character. Anything more notable about it?

The game would work fine without the Sketchbuk, too. Just doodle something, and write 10 words down (or pass the sheets around like the Words of Science in Adventures in Space!!). But I do love the Sketchbuk aesthetic.

Bee-rilliant!

I like it. The concept is loose, easy, fast, fun. Using random sketches is a great idea. I can see this working for other formats, not just this guy's sketchbook. For example, just go to Elfwood.com and do a "random pic". That would give the game a full fantasy feel. Shuffle some art cards and do random draws from the deck.

My game (underdeveloped, unpublished) VIZION is based on a similar conecpt, although I think yours succeeds where my falls flat. Well, at least yours seems more fun.

Later
