Hey all,
what do you think about the idea of instant switches of one passion to another, more specifically along the lines of love to hate.

Heres an example: Jehereth's Passion for his wife is 4. Someone he knows kills his wife, could that player then switch his 4 points of passion to "Hate for the man who killed my wife?" I think it would make sense just switching the number of passion points over directly, so the more you love soeone, the mre you hate the person who kills them and the less you love someone, the less youd hate the person who kills them.
Thoughts anyone?

Hi SMB,

The number in a given SA isn't indicative of "how much" you like, hate, or are "about" something. The number is sort of a "drama" meter, rather than a state.

So, instead of seeing it as "Hate this guy 1" meaning I kinda don't like him, I could honestly hate his guts, but like a movie, there has to be some back and forth melodrama before I can make the "comeback" and kick his ass. The ratings aren't a measure of how much you care, just where dramatically the story is going to place it. So if you spend down your SAs, its not a matter of caring less, simply a thematic change over.

After all, the usual story goes bad guy kills wife, and then it takes a while for the hero to get vengeance...otherwise he'd get revenge right away!

Chris

If you have "Loves my Wife 5" and she gets killed, spend that down to 0 and get "Hates the Bastard 0" to replace it. That just seems sensible to me, really. Now, you're a more improved person (5 SAs spent, maybe more if you had to get a second SA down to 0) and you've got that Hate building up inside you.

that makes sense, sounds good. the main thing i was concentrating on was not having to spend those 10 SA's or whatever to switch the SA.

Hello,

Are you understanding what's being said - that having to spend those 10 points is part of the process of making the new Passion more interesting, more fun to play, and more important to the story? That's what Alexander and Chis are saying.

Do not consider "Hate him 3" to be an amount of Hate. Consider the number to be the dramatic music associated with the hatred, and your suggestion - starting the music at maximum volume - leads to less interesting, less involving play.

Best,
Ron
