Hitlocation
At first, i will thank you a lot for creating so a great game-engine. i like the TROS-system very much.
at second, please excuse my bad english but i come from Germany. :)
at third, a little rule question: if i want to hit somebody, i have to say where i want to hit. good, no problems at this point. then i try to hit the guy, also no problem. after this its time for hitlocation and damage. the damage rules aren´t a problem ether. but the hitlocation....is ist completley random(d6)? i mean if you hit random - apart from left or right side - then it doesn´t make sense to declare where you try to hit your enemy. are they any rules if you want to hit an unarmed part of my opponent for example?

RE: Hitlocation
People do not stand still and wait to be hit.
When you declare a hit location, you declare a zone of attack. You aim, but since the target is moving you can only hit in the near vicinity of your aim. The d6 roll is within your zone, so your hit location isn't completely random.
Aiming for the head will not let you hit the feet by rolling a d6.
Clearer?

Accuracy.
Spof, Wilkomen!
Also of note is the gift of Accuracy. Should you want to, a use of minor accuracy will allow you to modify this d6 hit location roll up or down by one. The use of Major Accuracy will allow you to modify the d6 hit location roll up or down from 1 to 3 points. This reflects one's ability to hit more closely to where one was aiming as they are more accurate. Such a gift is a major advantage and it can be used to great effect if you do want to perform called shots, such as doing more damage/killing him quickly or just disabling him to ask questions later.

RE: Hitlocation
Hit location is only random within a striking zone. So I choose to attack zone I, II, II, IV, or V (etc), but within that zone I'm dependant on some fate (unless I have the gift of accuracy).

RE: Hitlocation
Should there be more of a provision for hitting the wrong zone with ranged weapons? The zone concept makes sense to me with melee combat, but when it comes to shooting someone with an arrow, it seems that you would be more likely to hit somewhere other than you intended.

RE: Hitlocation
I feel so, yes, but only at great range. At close range it's another issue.

As I recall there are 5 puncture/thrust zones right...8-12...
pretty easy to randomize that. Roll a d10 with a d6 and you get a random zone and a random hit within the zone.
For extra fun an excitement, my single favorite TROS rule...Terrain Rolls, which can be used for just about anything one can concieve of.
REALLY want to hit a specific zone with a long range arrow shot. Treat it like a Terrain roll, sacrifice some dice from your pool against some GM determined TN and go for it.

RE: Hitlocation
In order to still account for attempts at targetting, how about:
1. Choose your zone and attack as normal.
2. Roll d10 instead of d6 for hit location.
3. If result is 1-6, use the specified location.
4. If the result is 7-10, switch to the corresponding zone (skipping the zone you aimed for) and roll d6 for hit location.
