Will there be a Forge presence at Dragonmeet?

Some of us UK fanzine editors, the boys and girls from Critical Miss, KMANT, the Black Seal, Demonground and Aus fanzine editors like myself are going to have a panel about fanzines. There will probably also be a stall carrying those of these fanzines that are printed, along with others such as Carnel.

I know Indie RPGs are not terribly well represented in the UK at the moment, virtually all mine are from the US, so I wondered if some kind of Forge presence, possibly hosted by some locals might be a nice thing to try.

Any thoughts?

I could probably make it. Would be nice to meet a few of the UK based Forge bods.

I was after more than just making it. I'm after a bigger Indie RPG presence in the UK.

I've had one show of interest from Simon who makes Lashings of Ginger Beer.

What did you have in mind, Steve? A table in the dealer's room? Demos? A host of indie bods in easily identifiable uniforms?

I guess what I'm asking is what do you mean by presence? From your initial post it got me thinking more along the lines of "Hey guys! Why don't you turn up?"

Well, I'm not desperately a Forgite, in as much as I don't post here very often, but it would still be nice to put faces to names.

But really I meant that in the same way that us fanzine people are having a panel and a table with some fanzines, it would be great to have Indie RPGs doing the same thing, perhaps even sharing resources to a certain extent.

Almost all the Indie RPGs I have are from America: Donjon, Dust Devils, Universalis, Sorceror, Starchildren, My Life with Master, Killing Puppies for Satan.

I'm getting Lashings of Ginger Beer, which, let's face it, had to be English with a name like that.

It would be good for UK rpgs to see more of this kind of thing in the UK, or at least for people to be aware that there's something beyond d20, WoD, Buffy and GURPS.

If Forgites want me to try and sell copies of their games to people, even 'just' PDFs, I'll give it a go. If those who are near enough to London in December want to come and talk about the notion and practice of Indie RPGs for an hour before an audience, then I can arrange that.

Obviously money is a moot point if merchandise is going to change hands and I think that angle might be too difficult to arrange but I think a panel should be possible.

The two names that come to mind don't post much here anymore. Paul Elliot, and Max (AKA Balbinus). Anyone know if they'll be in attendance?

I imagine Max will be around, he lives within walking distance of the Con.

Hopefully, he's also coming to SteveCon tomorrow (see RPGnet or the Yahoo group stevecon for more info on this small 1 day Con that I run).

Well that'll be 1 + 2 half Forgites then.

Hello,

I for one would love to see as many people attend and call attention to Forge stuff and games by people here, as possible. But that wasn't hard to anticipate, I'm sure.

Over the next couple of months, I'd like to start up a much more concrete program and policy for people who want to represent the Forge at conventions. Look for more discussion about this later.

Best,
Ron

I'll likely be around for Dragonmeet, as usual. If I can get BoB into shape by then I may even have something to push, and certainly something I could run demos of.
