U-Con is Ann Arbor's annual game convention, held in the Michigan Union at the edge of the University of Michigan's central campus. In years past, U-Con has hosted guests who would go on to considerable success in the game industry, including Erick Wujcik (Amber Diceless, Mythic China), David Pulver (Big Eyes, Small Mouth Second Edition, and more GURPS supplements than we can recall!), and Mark McKinnon (Big Eyes, Small Mouth, Silver Age Sentinels).

U-Con strives to offer independent game manufacturers a place to demo and promote their games, and features the largest and longest-running track of Tekumel gaming in the world. Come help make U-Con a marvelous showcase of imaginative game design in this age of endless d20 clones. Visit the U-Con website, take a look around, and consider making a trip this November to beautiful Ann Arbor, Michigan. We hardly ever have snow that early... :)

Oh, and just in case anyone wondered about my affiliation, I was a U-Con staff member from '90 to '94. I served as Events Coordinator for the first two years, as Convention Director and Exhibitors Coordinator in my third year (the latter duties I assumed after the unfortunate death of the prior office-holder from leukemia), and as Exhibitors Coordinator in my final two years. While not one of U-Con's founders, I was intimately involved with the convention during its heyday and would love to see it (and Michigan conventions in general) make a resurgence.

And I will be running a pair of introductory HeroQuest events! :)

For anyone in or around southeast Michigan, there is still time to register events for U-Con 2003. The deadline to get into the pre-reg book is past, but events are frequently accepted up until about two weeks before the convention... in this case, the end of October. Best to act sooner rather than later, though, just in case. Independent roleplaying games need to make more of a showing...

Online pre-registration is now open, for those who may be interested.

Three weeks remain until the convention, and there are still plenty of events open. Also, there may still be time for folks to register indie-RPG events... surf over to the GM info page and drop them a line. While you won't get into the pre-reg book, there are a lot of on-site registrants who take an opportunistic approach to choosing the events in which they play. I hope to at least see all the reasonably local Forgites attend. :)
