Glenwood Springs: Relationship Map

Okay, I'm trying to get a campaign off the ground using all this player driven, relationship map style plotting.

While sketching out a vague map, one thing I noticed is not all the elements of the map are of equal level, weight, whatever you want to call it - though they may connected to heavier elements.

As a result I was toying with the idea of greating a 3D relationship map. It would have three levels: essentials the elemtents (be they people, conspiracies, whatever) would exist at three distinct levels:

1. Glenwood Springs movers and shakers (stuff surrounding the Mayor, those who run the town officially or unofficially).

2. Normal inhabitants (the dirt around those living in the town).

3. Lower stuff.

As an example, the fact the Cheerleading team is experimenting with the Cult of the Naked Goddess would be level three. It is connected to Level 2 though because their coach is an Adept of this cult and has links to the town folk (blackmail, secual liaisons, etc).

The level 1 stuff would be the upper town level conspiracies.

What do you think, it might bet complicated, but so was the flat diagram.

Hi Ian,

That sounds like a technique that might work, although I presume you have either the drafting or computer skill actually to depict such a 3D thing. One thing I do with my maps is have little "twigs" coming off individual boxes, to indicate named bodyguards or a business associate or any number of characters that I'm happy to role-play but really don't act as "map connectors," just as depth for or access to the main characters on the map.

Best,
Ron

P.S. Cheerleaders experimenting with the cult of the Naked Goddess ... all righty then!

No deep rooted sexual desires going on I assure you - they don't hold the same appeal over here

It links in with the whole idea of returning home after ten years of being away - so some of it pulls into the nostalgia gone wrong angle.

Also the character all the PC's have in common was the home coming queen and went on to coach the team, get them involved in the Cult and subsequently get killed (thus bringing all the PC's back to town.
