Game Design Seminar at UNY-con

Dan Brace has agreed that I should run a seminar at UNY-con November 14th-16th in Rochester, New York specifically on game design. I'd like it to be a panel event, if anyone with game design experience is going to be there. Contact me if you will be there, or you have some resources that might be useful that I may have missed at some point.

Thanks.

The event is definitely on, and I've heard from two game designers who will be there to work with me.

The bad news is they gave us Saturday morning; I'm not sure how functional I'll be at 9 a.m., but I'll give it a shot. Dan is right that competing with the major events later in the day may be difficult. (I hope I don't lose my associates for that time slot.)

If anyone else is going to be there and wants to participate, let me know.

I was there! I've put a brief couple of comments up at lumpley games.

I, too, was there. It was quite an enjoyable experience, and the discussion was excellent. I was quite pleased to meet both M.J. and Vincent.

During the course of discussion, we did a little workshop on a new game concept of Vincent's, and I think this was one of the best parts of the panel. It made me long for a game designer's workshop following the writer's workshop model. Lots of good ideas were discussed and a really interesting mechanic was proposed for prayer resolution.

I do want to thank Vincent and Brennan (and also Barron Vangor Toth) for helping with the panel. When I saw that we were scheduled for four hours, I thought that was silly, that we'd probably go one and a half to two and then run out of stuff--but we not only filled the entire four hours, it was engrossing and we probably could have gone longer (apart from the fact that it was then lunchtime and most of us were hungry).

I am excited about Vincent's new game idea, and look forward to seeing it brought to fruition. (I also think that his recently developed Cupid game the exact name of which slips my mind at the moment looks like a great one-shot that would work with people who have no idea what role playing games are like.)

Vince, I'll have that article somewhere you can read it soon.

P.S.--what happens to news items when they fall off the front page of your site? I printed what was there, but it would be cool to be able to set up a permanent link to it.
