Hey guys,

I just need a quick "show of hands" from those of you who have used the Character Generator. Was I particularly insulting to Americans?

I just had an email from someone who is unimpressed with my insulting of Americans and calling them backwards for their numerical system etc.

Now, obviously there was a tiny bit of that, but I thought it was fairly clear that such was in fun and certainly not meant to be derogatory at all. On the other hand, I'm a sarky bastard at times and maybe went too far without realising it.

So, if you don't mind, can you just let me know (poll at the top of this topic). If it's insulting, then my sincere apologies and I'll remove it in an update post haste (with surprise on my face, but that's better than egg).

Thanks,
Brian.

First vote! I have a sense of humor, so I was nothing but amused.

I just wish I knew what all the easter eggs were. And a number of other quality/option features I've mentioned on other threads.

Mer-maid boobies...

Nah.. Anyone who was genuinely insulted is taking themselves way too seriously.

On the way-too-serious side, I agree that our measurements are outmoded. Our military has gone almost entirely to metric (we still do the 2 mile run, and our vehicle's odometers still have miles on them, as opposed to ONLY metric)

Fact of the matter is, though.. I don't think in metric. I am 5 foot 8, or 68 inches. It's approximately 1 mile between major crossroads. When I pick up my girlfriend, I guesstimate her weight in pounds, (and am always surprised when she tells me she weighs more than my guess.. can't see where she puts the weight, honestly). I just saw kms on my way into Tucson, due to it's proximity to Mexico, and had no idea how far that was, or how long it would take me to travel the distance.

It's hard to teach an old dog (even if it's only 200+ years, rather than the millenia of most european nations, 200 years is still old, and 24 years (my age)is still old enough) new tricks.

Doesn't mean I should be insulted when you poke fun at me. I just usually get back at you by implying that New Zealand is the same thing as Australia. I mean.. isn't it?

I think someone listed most of the easter eggs a while back on the forum (and I mentioned one of them above, of course).

About the only one he missed was the hidden prize for creating an item of equipment called "Of Beasts and Men", but you're too late - someone already claimed that prize (which was a copy of the PDF of OBAM). I think the only other one everyone has missed requires a good perception to spot (I wont say exactly where it is, since it's a tiny bit rude, but that was a hint). For the rest, do a search through the forum (there are about 7 or 8, I think).

Brian.

Hey man, insulting the imperial system of weights and measures is just like insulting my mother...

...except that it's a system of weights and measures instead of my mother and I really don't care if you insult them, whereas I would might care if you insulted my mother - but even then depending on the context and intent.

In any case, thanks for graciously accomodating us in your program!

I had fun looking for all the easter eggs.

Also agree that the imperial system of weights and measures is retarded. Wish that we could get with the program like the rest of the world and count by 10's.

No. A great nation like the good ol' US of A can't possibly be insulted by some guy from a small, sheep covered, rugby playing, nuclear free, island on the edge of the Southern Ocean...

even if we have a totally backward measurment system, insane cows, no healthcare, and a president who should be commited (even if he does pay my salary)...

and ok, New Zealand isn't that small, sheep taste good, rugby is a better game than American football, nuclear free isn't a bad idea and the north island is nice in the summer...

...and we might be Americans...but at least we're not Australians...

The char gen is great...NT

Sounds like a personal problem, Lance. I think metric, in no small part because of my military experience. In fact, they're klicks, not kilometers to me. You Maylasians use the term klick, Bryan? By the way, the orangutan you sent me is defective and I want my money back - in dollars US, please!

Bastardly Retarded Idiotic Austistic Nincompoop,
hahaha just felt like joking about acronyms again...
Anyways, I have yet to download the CharGen even though I now have a copy of the book... though I was not the one to pay for it... so I have no idea if I should or not...
So, I have yet to see the actual 'offensive' joke in question, so no harm-no foul.

At least New Zealand brought us something useful, like most of the scenes in the LOTR series... though you all got to see it before us, you crappy bastards. And I have yet to see the third one, however I already know enough due to the cartoon version of aforementioned movie, as well as the book.

Clickety... clickety... Delete Account 'Ingenious'... clickety.. click.

And it wasn't most of the scenes from LOTR - in fact the entire series was filmed here, some of it not that far from where I live (although, to be fair, they moved around the country so much that pretty much anyone in New Zealand can make that claim).

Brian.

OK, thanks guys. Polls over.

Final results: Most of you were not offended, a couple of you are Australians, and quite a few of you like boobies (no real surprise there).

But more importantly, I wasn't offensive to Americans (as I knew all along). Sweet.

Cheers all,
Brian.

Besides, Metric is simply a crutch for the mathematically challenged, and people to senile to remember conversion ratios other than 1:10. How could users of a real measurement system possibly be insulted by comments from the obviously inferior...it would be beneath us to even notice.

Actually if you think about a technological level at which it might be hard to make accurate measurments, the English system makes some sense. Many of the measurements (though not all) are easily done by halving and halving again. Eg, got a gallon but want a quart? Take half and then half of half. Many of the volume measurements work this way. Some of the length ones do to, but not all.
