Consultancy for New Publishers
Hey folks....the posts made by Mads
Jakobsen, trying to bring his argument with the Forge over to RPGnet reminded me that I wanted to register over here....so forgive me if my first post violates some unwritten etiquette.
I once mentioned this off-handedly in a post on EN World, and the response that I've gotten was pretty heavy...so I figured that I'll make it official. I've made this post over on RPGnet as well...but it occurs to me that The Forge probably is a much better audience for this annoucement, since people here are more serious about what they're doing.
I'm offering my services as a freelance consultant to any interested new publishers. Here is a run-down of some of the services that I can provide:
- Print brokering and liaison
- Production assistance
- Business operations consultation
- Marketing consultation
- Networking assistance
- Distribution assistance and consultation
I have worked in this industry since 1988, and those years of experience can be used to assist any new publishing venture. My rates are negotiable, depending upon the size of the publisher in question, and what specific needs they have.
I have operated as a consultant for: Synister Creative Systems, Green Knight Publishing and Thyrsus Games. A few new D20 publishers have also approached me for consultancy, but those will remain anonymous until the contracts are signed.
Any interested publishers should contact me directly via email, or through private message on this forum.

Hey Gareth, I have a question about the new biz.
What level or stage of development would you consider minimal? In other words, if a fellow asked me, "Hey, I have an idea for a game, who can I talk to?" and he basically had exactly that - a scribbled spiral notebook - would you be a candidate?
Best,
Ron

Interesting question. I hadn't considered someone at THAT initial a stage, simply because they usually don't have the wherewithall to pay any consultant...otherwise they'd be further along than that.
I suppose if the person was serious, though, I'd consider it...although honestly, given the much larger amount of work that would be needed to get someone at that stage up to speed, my fee would probably be fairly high.
The people I've worked with have ranged from publishers with long-established lines looking for marketing and operations consultancy, to start-up D20 publishers looking for print brokering and help at 'breaking in'.
In general though, I've noticed that the kinds of folks who most need this sort of service are the ones least likely to go after it...they just don't think they need the help.

Just performing a bit of thread-necromancy... :)
I'm getting back into the business side of things again, and, as all of my outstanding contracts have been fulfilled, I'm back to offering my services as described in the above posts.
Any interested parties should contact me at gms@adamantentertainment.com, and we can discuss your specific needs.
