Had an awesome TRoS session today.

I got to play TRoS for the first time today as one of my group mates took over being Seneschal for the day.  It was a long session that climaxed with my companion and I leading 200 newly freed slaves into a pitched battle to clear a tribe of Gols from the mountain valley where they were going to claim as their new home.

I had the distinction of earning both the luckiest and unluckiest rolls of the session.  The Gols were lead by a captain and I decided to try and take him out as quickly as possible.  Mounted on horseback, lance in hand I charged him.  With my conscience SA (my motivation for helping the slaves) firing I had 17 dice total during that charge, I managed to get 5 successes only after burning my two luck points!  It barely scratched the bastard!

I charged again after recovering and this time he cut my horse out from under me.  I was thrown and would have been doomed if my companion hadn't arrived just in time to ram a half sworded greatsword into his back...it didn't kill him but it dropped him CP enough so that I was able to get a single massive shot with my own sword.  Again I was rolling 17 dice (CP is 13, 2 for aggressive stance, 2 from the SA).  I hit him for 25 damage...that's right 25: Str 7+2 (sword) +3 (half sword) + 13 successes.     That more than made up for my rather lame charge earlier.

I learned the hard way that I would have actually done better using my sword than I did with the lance.  I have a higher CP by 3, and my Str is only 1 lower than the courser I was riding....oh well, I'll remeber than next time.  Or maybe I'll get a bigger horse since I'm now in the market for one...

The other character in my party did really well.  He had 3 SAs firing the whole battle for 6 or so extra dice total.  Between us we killed a few dozen Gols, tag teamed a Gol captain, freed 200 slaves and earned the loyalty of an entire region (who lived in constant terror of the Gols our troops eradicated).

All in all it was a great session and was our first chance to really get our SAs firing so we saw TRoS as it was meant to be for the first time.

When that happens you can almost hear the Basil Poledouris in the background...
