I posted this in the Dagger Stats topic, but due to the extended discussion there I'm afraid it's going to get lost in the wash...so I thought I'd start a new topic for it:

I don't see the words Main Gauche (spelling probably wrong here) in the book anywhere, does that fall into one of the listed two types, or is it yet another. I guess what I'm really asking is what ATN/DTN to use for this specific weapon (because I wouldn't know the difference between a rondel and a poniard if someone came up to me and stuck one of each into me with post-its attached displaying the names of each one).

added edit:
oh, by the way, it sounds like StarShadow is having troubled getting a straight answer to the initial question in the Dagger Stats topic. I think Starshadow wanted some simple numbers and it looks like the thread has degraded into a dagger philosophy debate....and although it is very informative and interesting, I don't think that was what Starshadow was hoping for....so if anyone has some simple numbers for him over there I'm sure it would be appreciated greatly.

Caz

It's the same as poniard.  It means "left hand", and generally refers to any dagger used in conjunction with a rapier or cut/thrust sword.  More specifically daggers designed for that purpose, often with specialized thrusting blades, or at least very pointy ones, and hilts designed for protection and parrying ability.

toli

I think you could just treat it as a poinard, but you might add some AV for the left hand.

Thanks guys, that helps. Don't know if anyone saw my added edit or not...I overlapped the responses in editting it (weren't there when I started but got there before I submitted), but if someone could take a look-see I think Starshadow would appreciate it.

From your responses though, I think this thread probably already answers his question.

Salamander

I think Caz and Toli are on the money with this one.
"Don't fight your opponent's sword, fight your opponent. For as you fight my sword, I shall fight you. My sword shall be nicked, your body shall be peirced through and I shall have a new sword".
