Does anyone know of a skill within the rulebook that would be used for appraising things, more specifically weapons and armors?  The craft skill seemed viable, but i was thinking of just creating a new skill called appraise, where you could either choose to have a basic understanding of a broad range of things (weapons, armors, shields, jewels) or a very specific knowledge of one thing (swords).  Any suggestions?  Is this a bad idea?

The craft skill is exactly right. It's "craft: appraisal." Or that's how I'd do it.

Do you let your players choose whether to have general knowledge of a broad range of things or a specific thing like swords or armor?  What are some example TN's that you use for certain situations?
