Small confession: once upon a time, I wanted to be a comic book artist, except for one failing- I never did master "real". Animated, cartoony stuff on the other hand I can manage in my sleep sometimes.
Thus, with the nearing completion of my first RPG (The Imp Game), I started sketching out some concept pieces (as I do for all my projects so I can say to my artists "THIS is what I want!") and realized "Hey...these could work..."

So, without further ado-
Big Dumb Imp
Devious Imp

These are for interior illustrations, 300 DPI, for a 5.5x4.25 pocket sized book.
The game is quite animated (I make several references to "over-the-top saturday morning cartoons" as I explain the game) and kooky, and I feel these fit. A few other pieces are going to be commissioned ala madelf.
So, being I am NOT a professional illustrator, are they utter rubbish that would turn you off the game or could I use them?

First link gives 404 error.

Second link is not utter rubbish that turns me off from the game. :)

Big Dumb Imp - Relink

That should do the trick.

They both give me a 70's "Tunnels & Trolls" feeling - like something someone puts together just for fun. They'd probably turn me off from the book, sorry to say...

Course it might help if I posted the link to the game: http://www.neoproductions.net/imp/

The game IS all about fun, just bizzare little weirdness.
Highlights of sessions include the introduction of the Floppy Blue Dildo of Healing, the Mexican Bunny Lettuce Farm (where they take a taquila break every 5 minutes), and matching wits with a large blue warrior reminicent of the Tick.
So, considering the inspiration for the characters is ala corny old cartoons and the like, I suppose your remarks indicate I hit my mark...

I would highly suggest having someone with solid inking skills redo these. The concepts are good, but they just lack professional execution in my humble opinion. Some nice varied line weights and brushwork done with an expert hand would really sell the game better.
But that's just my 2 cents. Do what you think is best.

The big dumb imp would have been better if it had remained a broken link, I think. ;)

Nah, that's overly harsh. You could of course go with the really 'light' theme these pics imply.

Hmmkay, doing some work with madelf/Calvin on other pieces for the book, he touched up my line art followed by his rendition:

Howdy.

I'd say the "touched-up" versions are a surprisingly effective improvement.  I found them actually much more engaging.

Vast improvement in the touched up versions.

Suggestion: drawings with a sense of movement to them would make the game seem more dynamic: shots of imps in action, rather than imps posing for fiendish portraiture.

Definetly.
I do have some other sketches of actions (running from crazed villagers, cringing/overacting, doing a variety of stupid things).
These posted are portraits, pure and simple, exactly what they're meant to be.

Quite agree though, quite a bit better ^_^
