Hi folks,

For anyone interested in discussing the issues of race, culture and ethnicity in regards to roleplaying:

http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/RoleplayersOfColor/

Discussion includes portrayal and depiction of ethnic groups in roleplaying publications, social contract issues, etc.

I'm going to ask this publically, because I imagine it applies to more than one of us.

I'm a white guy.  Not a gamer of color at all.  But I am really interested in race and cultural issues.  Am I welcome to read this group?  Post to it?

Hi Ben,

As from the groups FAQ:

Quote## Rules of Discussion:
1. This -is- a somewhat political group, and as long as the discussion
is relevant to the group purpose political discussion will be
  allowed.

2. Personal attacks, racial, ethnic, class, and religious slandering
  will not be tolerated.

3. This group is not meant to exclude the majority race, but the
perspective for them here is much like of the perspective for men who
  join women in gaming lists.

4. For now, discuss what seems relevant, and we'll see what rules are
  needed.

I think in order to get/give the most from discussion in this group, a bit of background knowledge in the poltics of race would be useful.  Particularly useful concepts to get a grasp on would include internalized racism, internalized racial superiority, white privelege, and unmarked categories.
