As an aside, I want to play a Shock game where the scales are

Gunfights <--------> Car Chases
Explosions <--------> Swords

Well, you could. I guess all the talking would wind up being color...

This is interesting, actually. Expert characters will be one of:

Gunfights and Swords! PFC Lance Benjamin. He fights and kills!
Gunfights and Explosions! Sarge: Demolitions!
Car Chases and Swords! Rex Factor: the brash mercenary pilot with a shady past!
Car Chases and Explosions! Felby, the Useful Sidekick!

What would you see as a Shock/Issue matrix for this, though? It would have to be something really broad-brush. Like Slavery, Sexism, Imperialism vs. Space Travel and Alien Invasion.
the glyphpress's games are Shock: Social Science Fiction and Under the Bed.

I design books like Dogs in the Vineyard and The Mountain Witch.

Yup!  Talking is fine, but if you really want to, you know, resolve a conflict, boom!

I think that this could really cover a broad stretch of issues and technologies.  Think of a Shonen anime rather than the more limited Pulp genre -- you could easily have, say, Sexual Frustration, Political Disillusionment, Nuclear War on one side and Giant Robots, Cybernetics, and Aliens on the other.

Well, you're right!

Hooray for Shock:!

I may have to use this as an example in the book.

Angela Bassett's character in Strange Days was totally car chases and swords.

Yeah. It's too bad the rest of that movie wasn't any good.

"Racism is a big deal!"

"Oh, no! Something's set off the powder keg!"

"Wait, no, no it didn't."

Wow... I'm definitely going to be following the development of this game!  Please tell me there is some Cordwainer Smith in the bibliography.
