Author Topic: [Ronnies] Help me out a little on colloquial English  (Read 664 times)

Allright, I'm doing my own entry for the Ronnies. I can't help it. It will be my first design in English, and I try to do it in English from the start, even doing the notes and most of the thinking in English, instead of translating it from German. However, I'm a little weak with colloquial stuff, yet I feel a colloquial tone would be much appropriate. I'm sure nobody will mind if I ask for a little help on that, will they?

The game is called "My Girlfriend's a Slut/My Boyfriend's a Dick". It's about a very unhealthy relationship, wherein one part is an asshole and the other part is... well, here goes. For the slut girlfriend, I was thinking about the boyfriend as the "poor sucker". Sound good? What should I call the girlfriend to the dick boyfriend?

I'll probably come up with more questions as I go along, but I thought I might as well start this out straight away. Thanks in advance!

Hi Frank,

Actually, I suggest that you use the best terms you can without using our help. I bet this thread would turn into a very painful discussion for many people, who will feel the need to demonstrate irrelevant things in public. In other words, if I were to propose you use the term "stupid gash" for the boyfriend's term toward his girlfriend, I guarantee eighty posts would appear all riffing off whether I "should" have said that, whether the term is or isn't "so bad," and responding to one another. It's just too much for a website format to handle.

If you're really stuck, well, you already have the terms in your title - just "the Dick" and "the Slut" ought to do nicely. Or rather, not nicely ...

Best,
Ron

Whoops, forgot to finish up.

People, feel free to contact Frank by PM to help him, but please do NOT discuss the actual game he's working on, just translation issues.

No discussion of derogatories and their nuances (and the nuances about you for providing them) in this thread; it's closed.

Best,
Ron
