Jesse's got it right.

The only differences between Full Defense and any other action are:

1. It applies to many targets, not just one (although this is really no different from spraying a room with machine-gun fire).

2. Someone "hit" by it does not get to abort his or her action; they're just stuffed.

Okay, I think I've got it.

In mechanics terms, Full Defense is an action, same as any other action. If the PC gets attacked before the action goes off, PC either sucks it up or aborts to regular defense, same as for any other action. If the PC aborts to regular defense, the player can roll regular defense for each incoming attack.

In more visual terms, um. I'm a word person, so please bear with me. Okay, the character is gearing up for all out, cinematically cool defense. But, someone is faster, so there's no time to gear up for that attack. Therefore, either that particular attack hits a wimpy defense, or the character switches to less ultra cool moves, but moves that work against all attacks for that bit of screen time.

Is that about right?
