Hi folks,
Towards the end of the first night, we had 3 extra people show up, and wanted to get them into play ASAP. In hindsight, Capes is not the game I would try to introduce a lot of new players to, because it has a lot of deep system mastery to it that doesn't seem immediately apparent.
We had a fun time, though I don't think it completely clicked with the players. People got the idea of making conflicts to introduce neat things in play, but I think perhaps next time I try to teach Capes, I'll start with explaining resources and strategies, and show character generation last- since, really it's just about assigning color more than mechanical effectiveness.
During play we had heroes stop Magnatron from smashing the moon into the earth, Eco-terrorists from taking over the international space station (why? who knows), The Foot of Fury attempt to turn on his teammates and take over the station himself, and astral horrors from beyond space-time attack the station. In other words, it was the best of 60's Marvel cheesiness + the insane ninjasharking logic of the 80's summer cross-over story arc wrapped into one.
We only got to play one scene, though we went through something like 5 Pages, which gave a good overview of how Capes worked to the new folks.
