How does one get started in PBeM? I quite fancy running one, but I'd like to play one for a bit to get more of a feel for it. My RPG to date has all been face to face or realtime on line (webrpg).

This might not be the right place to ask, but if anyone could point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it

This should be a fine place to ask. I've got a PBEM game or two going right now, but I'm not sure I'm looking for new players. If an opening does show up, I'll let you know. Hopefully, somebody here is ready to take on a new player, or will be inspired by you wanting to play and start one up.

If you can't find a game, then maybe you should just dive into running one. If so, do a search on this forum for PBEM, as there are some threads that may help. And indicate here, and we can give you a head start.

Mike, you asked this in another thread somewhere, my name is either Anthony or "the humakti loving freak"

That said, do you or anyone else have any pbem play examples you'd be willing to share?

It's been quiet for a bit since our narrator's been occupied with RL, but you can see what a PBEM looks like in action over at our Fire Tribe Yahoo! Group:

  http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/fire_tribe/

The play might be a little tricky to follow (we do get rather carried away), but I think it'll give you the general idea. Oh, and I maintain an edited and cosmetically tweaked compilation of the narrative thread here:

Anthony,

Send me PM with an email address to invite you to the Yahoo Group I'm thinking of so you can lurk.

Anthony, since Paul mentioned the Fire Tribe game I run, I thought I'd jump in.

I think you are right to play a bit (or lurk) to see how it goes, at the very least to see the pace (quick-slow-quick-quick-slow-slooooow) and some of the dynamics. If you want to have a look at the Fire Tribe game from within (I'm trying to get myself into a position to carry on) then send a request to join to the group - Paul or I can approve it.

I think that once you've had a sniff around, though, you should just start. There is an HQ/RQ internet gamist list which you can join to post invites to a game. Once you have people wishing to play (not so difficult), just get something set up and start talking. I think that you'll find that there are people who are happy to give suggestions.

I had played in one game, which didn't last so long but was fun, before I started mine. I was a bit wary of starting off, but once I had made one post suggesting it, it just took off and has been great fun.

Sam.

Mandrake,
I'm in the process of begining a new Play-by-post game and am just starting to look for players.
It will be set among the Torkani tribe and Siganti clan (strong Humakt ties) so it may be what your looking for, it will likely include a few people new to play by post games.

Assuming I do start one, where do I look for players?

If Glorantha is the setting you want to run in, <a href="http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/GloranthaInternetGaming/>here[/url] would be one option.
