Lacuna Questions

I moved this to a new thread as requested :) . I was looking for some guidance on running Lacuna. I ran a one night session using the first attempt rules. The session went as followed.
Character generation was straight forward and we had a lot of fun. We ended up with three Agents all really weird.
Each was handed a secret mission to complete in different areas of Blue City. One mission was to collect a blue phone with the other two agents present, the second mission was in Mayan glyphs, and the third was to find a blue lady. This was to serve as their introduction to Blue City.
The agents entered Blue City and had no idea of what to do (or what they were capable of). They eventually found a guy with the blue phone. One agent killed him and the others were left wondering what is going on. They started looking for a blue lady but they soon jacked out to get some clarification on their missions. That is where the session ended.
My players said they had a great time but I was left with sense I wasn't doing something right. I felt that they needed something more focused to do or maybe I am just not understanding the game that well. Also how does one run Lacuna? I read an example of play here on the Forge but I was still kind of confused. Thanks.

I'm planning on running Lacuna at a game convention in a few months. I know how it's going to start. I know how it's going to end. It's going to be the full Lacuna experience, even more full-on than Jared's "full Lacuna experience" for Dro, Thor, and Luke. However, I have no idea what will happen during the dive into Blue City.
But yes, you do need to give them a mission goal, not just secret missions to accomplish. If this is an orientation mission, have them go in on a simple HP hunt, one that Control doesn't think is going to be too difficult.

Give them a goal to persue, even if that goal doesn't exist. I really don't think you can just drop them into Blue City and tell them to just wander around and see the sights.

Lacuna is, as I understand it, played on several levels. A lot of it is actually about the characters - not the missions as such. So if/when I run it, I'd give them a fairly straight mission, but start dropping clues to the "real" plot/events along the way.
The game is, indeed, a riddle, and I suggest reading through it a few times and checking out some threads on The Forge (esp. one of Ron's) for more hints.
