I wonder what Matt would write if he had to compose a single paragraph about NBC's new show Heroes, in the same vein as he wrote about Lost and Six Feet Under and Firefly and Battlestar Galactica (pages 4-5 in PtA)?

Hmm ... Matt? :)

Hey, sorry, but I've never watched it. My wife watched a couple eps and gave up on it. I trust her taste, and my schedule is a little tight right now, so I never bothered.

Her biggest PTA recommendation, though, is The Nine. Anybody watched that?

Heroes is available on I-tunes Matt, so if you find a chunk of time to spare I recommend checking it out.

It has a very deliberate pace and the pilot and first couple of episodes are alot of stage setting...things progress pretty slowly because there's quite a few characters and unlike...say Firefly...which had a ton of characters all in the same spot, all of the Heroes characters are scattered around the world...so fitting scene time for each in a 45 minute episode means not much plot progression.  As events start drawing these people together I suspect that will pick up.

5 episodes in, and I'm totally hooked.  Lots of speculation, but its not even clear yet who of the characters are "good guys" and who are "bad guys".

Each set of characters has its own issues, so if I were to do it in PTA I'd do short 1-3 episode "series" for each character / location and then run a larger series as they come together.

I'll second Ralph's enthusiasm. Heroes is a really good show.

And while my experience with PTA is limited to one lackluster session, his pacing advice seems like a good one. I almost wish that the actual series did it that way, though obviously I can see why they wouldn't.

Yep, Heroes is definitely worth watching. Episode 4 kicks it into high gear. It does the PTA-style issue thing pretty well.

It's on the "dumb it down" end of the TV spectrum, though. Be prepared to cringe every now and then as the show patiently holds your hand. It's still a good show! I just wish they didn't pander quite as often as they do.

Hi, I hope this isn't against board guidelines or something. I frequent a Heroes forum and they are planning on starting an RPG. They have some really great fan art and a Map of Heroes which is a Google Earth map of all their members (myself included.)

Anyway, the URL is http://www.superhiro.org and the site's owner said he wants to start an RPG and is looking for suggestions. I found this forum while looking for ideas to contribute.

Watching Heroes this past weekend I was struck by another PtA greatness: Precognition (and, by extension, that other hackneyed plot device: prophecies) really work well in PtA because they're not vague plot hints by the GM, instead they're collective agreements by everyone involved. I don't know any other system that could make such things work. Now I want to work them into my game.
