This is looking brilliant Seth! I especially admire your Crime Grid.
Just a quick idea for Research, taken as is from my game. Let a player invent any evidence she or he feels like, except for two major constraints:
- A clue cannot be dependent on another one, which would limit your possibilities for later on, and amounts to some kind of investigative work (fitting the pieces together)
- It cannot imply a specific role for a character either, for the same reasons as above
Now, I don't quite understand how this would work on the player level in your game. Perhaps the player requesting the Research Scene sets it, and another hops in and drops a clue (cross-fertilization of ideas). Or maybe you could do this as a short monologue. You might even require some currency for such scenes, to prevent their excessive proliferation.
