Moreno R.

Hello!

For my future game of Sorcerer set in the "Dictionary of Mu" setting, I am thinking about returning to an old habit we had in a previous game group: the use of background music, both for atmosphere and as a ritual signal that "the game start NOW".

So I would ask for the name of songs or full albums that in your opinion would be good for the Dictionary of Mu setting.

The parameters are: no "hey, give me all your attention!" music, so no distracting songs or sound effects. I am searching for background music, something to let play at low volume that you don't even notice after a little, but that give a sort of "movie feeling" to play.  Movies scores are good (we used a lot of them years ago, for example we used "the last of the mohicans" soundtrack for years for a lot of classic fantasy games, and it worked well).

Availability is another big factor: I am searching for music I can download for free or paying a little amount, not some old vinyl LP to search in old and dusty shops for months.

If you have the name of some songs that would be perfect for a Sorcerer game in another setting you can cite it as well (I could need it some other time or it could be useful to somebody who don't play in Mu)

I thank in advance everybody who will help me to make my game better!
Ciao,
Moreno.

(Excuse my errors, English is not my native language. I'm Italian.)

Fair warning: this may not work for your group at all. Not many people associate "fantasy-roleplaying" and "sword-and-sorcery" with psychedelia in the way I do.

King Crimson.

Best, Ron

Jennifer Rodgers

Most (not all) of the tracks on the Black Hawk Down score would be perfect.

Somewhere in between King Crimson and a movie soundtrack is Kyuss, check 'em out.

Blues for a Red Sun in particular.

And the spinnoff projects are good too:

Trey Gunn (the Chapman stick player) 1000 Years
Robert Fripp String Quartet
League of Crafty Guitarists

Kirk Mitchell

For some reason, "atmospheric music" and "sword and sorcery", particularly in regards to Dictionary of Mu makes my brain go "Atmospheric Black Metal!" So: 'N Crugu Bradului by Negura Bunget. A quick hunt around the internet found this entire album up for download. You might want to check out the myspace page before you make any decisions, though.

Something far more palatable would be Damnation by Opeth, which totally isn't black or death metal at all.

And yeah King Crimson, totally. Listening to them makes me think of Wizards.
